Job Summary
The Head of Electrical Operations is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the electrical operations for the organisation. This includes managing the electrical operations team, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, coordinating electrical projects, and optimizing electrical systems and infrastructure.
The role requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
This role involves coordinating with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams to deliver high-quality electrical installations and maintenance services.
Key Responsibilities Summary:
* Manage the electrical operations team, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance reviews.
* Estimating, overseeing and managing electrical projects from inception to completion.
* Ensuring that all work is performed according to contract specifications, on time, and within budget
* Coordinate with other departments to plan and execute electrical projects.
* Ensure compliance with all relevant electrical codes, safety regulations, and environmental standards
* Collaborate with vendors and contractors to procure and manage electrical equipment and services
* Stay up to date with industry trends and technologies, and implement innovative solutions to improve electrical operations
* Provide technical expertise and guidance to cross-functional teams on electrical-related matters
* Develop and manage the electrical operations budget, including forecasting, cost control, and resource allocation
* Continuously evaluate and improve electrical processes and procedures to enhance efficiency and productivity
Key Responsibilities:
Project Management:
o Plan, direct, and coordinate electrical projects to ensure they meet contractual requirements.
o Develop project schedules and manage resources to ensure timely completion.
o Monitor project progress and make adjustments as necessary to ensure successful completion.
Contract Management:
o Review and interpret electrical contracts and ensure compliance with all terms and conditions.
o Negotiate contract terms, pricing, and change orders with clients and suppliers.
o Manage contract documentation, including bids, proposals, and specifications.
Financial Management:
o Prepare and manage project budgets and financial reports.
o Track project costs and manage budget variances.
o Approve and process invoices and payments related to project expenses.
Team Leadership:
o Supervise and provide guidance to project teams, including electricians, technicians, and subcontractors.
o Ensure team members understand and comply with safety regulations and standards.
o Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to team members.
Client Relations:
o Serve as the primary point of contact for clients throughout the project lifecycle.
o Maintain strong client relationships and ensure customer satisfaction.
o Address and resolve any issues or concerns that arise during the project.
Quality Assurance:
o Ensure all electrical work meets industry standards and regulatory requirements.
o Conduct regular site inspections to monitor quality and compliance.
o Implement and enforce quality control measures and best practices.
Health and Safety:
o Promote a safe working environment and ensure adherence to health and safety policies.
o Conduct safety audits and risk assessments.
o Investigate and report any accidents or incidents.
Documentation and Reporting:
o Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including progress reports, change orders, and completion certificates.
o Provide regular updates to senior management on project status and performance.
o Prepare and submit final project reports and closeout documents.
Qualifications:
· [Essential] Hold a valid CSCS Black Card / SSSTS Card.
· [Essential] High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an electrician apprenticeship program preferred.
· [Essential] Level 2 diploma in Electrical Installation or Level 3 diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
· [Essential] T (technical) level qualification for highway, installation, or maintenance electricians.
· [Essential] Level 3 Technical Certificate and the National Electrotechnical Training (NET) AM2 certificate.
· [Essential] Work experience and NVQ qualifications.
· [Essential] Completion of a 3-4 year apprenticeship and holding a Level 3 technical and vocational qualification or Level 3 Diploma.
· [Essential] HVAP Switching Qualifications
· [Essential] Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical project management or a similar role.
· [Essential] Strong knowledge of electrical systems, codes, and standards.
· [Essential] Proven experience managing large-scale electrical projects within the Demolition / Construction industry.
· [Essential] Valid driver's license and willingness to travel as needed.
· [Essential] Confident user of Excel / Word / Office 365
· Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
· Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
· Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 software.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Professional certification in project management (e.g., PMP).
· Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
· Experience with renewable energy projects.
· Familiarity with building information modeling (BIM) software.
· IOSH certification or similar safety training.
Working Conditions:
· The position may require working in both office and field environments.
· Travel to project sites and client meetings.
· Ability to work extended hours when necessary to meet project deadlines.
