An exciting opportunity for a Rail Electrical Design Engineer to join an established and dynamic in-house design team specialising in E&P engineering projects within the rail sector.

Having secured numerous long-term Frameworks with key clients, AmcoGiffen is expanding its in-house Civil & Structural Design team. We are offering multiple positions at various levels for engineers dedicated to delivering optimal design solutions, building on their experience, and advancing their professional growth.
Our in-house design team comprises specialist designers across different competency levels, responsible for engineering design on a variety of civils, rail, and engineering projects. These include CP7, asset management contracts, infrastructure projects, and tendered schemes involving rail, civils, and E&P works.
Within the wider business, projects typically involve bridge reconstruction/replacement, upgrades and refurbishments, station works (such as platforms), access-for-all schemes, structures including bridges, tunnels, and footbridges, as well as associated E&P works covering Electrification, Plant, Mechanical, Electrical, Power, Lighting, and more.
The Role
We are seeking a knowledgeable, rail-focused E&P Design Engineer to join our in-house team. This role will support AmcoGiffen in delivering E&P design services across multiple long-term Frameworks with major clients.
As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for developing technical solutions aligned with project budget, schedule, and quality standards.
To succeed in this role, you will have prior experience as an E&P Design Engineer within a rail engineering environment. Your daily responsibilities will include:
* Applying initiative and confidence to propose solutions based on sound engineering principles.
* Challenging the brief to enable innovative, clear engineering solutions from feasibility through to detailed design.
* Designing and reviewing engineering solutions.
* Producing clear, consistent, referenced calculations, reports, and sketches in accordance with current Codes of Practice and standards.
* Communicating design philosophy and requirements effectively with team members.
* Representing the team at meetings with project teams, clients, and stakeholders.
* Demonstrating awareness of project financial, quality, and schedule targets.
* Promoting safe working practices across all activities.
Requirements
* Minimum BEng / BSc Degree in a relevant engineering or technical discipline.
* Sentinel Personal Track Safety (PTS) competence in both AC and DC.
* E&P project design experience within a rail environment.
* Experience working in client, contractor, or consultancy organisations in a rail E&P engineering design capacity.
* Working knowledge of relevant British standards (e.g., BS7671, 18th Edition wiring regulations), Railway Group standards, Network Rail standards, with a preferred understanding of LUL standards.
* Proficiency in Microstation, ProjectWise, Hevacomp, Amtech, DIALux, and other relevant software packages.
