About the role
In line with Matalan's strategy of putting our customers at the heart of everything we do and in line with our ambition to be the 1st choice for value for Matalan families, lead the sourcing and procurement of key lines and core products across designated ranges focusing on delivering the best price, quality and consistency.
Key responsibilities:
* Assisting Management of key line process including utilisation of e-auction technology
Sourcing & Supply Management for Assigned Product Areas
* Formulation of supply base sourcing strategy and development of framework including Market Strategy, Supplier Reviews and Key Line Strategy
* Identification and evaluation of supplier capabilities, including quality, pricing, reliability and delivery terms
* Review and selection of product concepts for tendering
* Negotiation of supplier contractual agreements and pricing
Purchase Planning
* Collaborate with Merch Planning to formulate effective capacity planning that maximises manufacturing efficiency
Management of all aspects of supplier relationship including
* Performance reviews, issue resolution and collaboration to create the optimum quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness
* Ensuring suppliers meet the requirements of the product specification packs translating detailed product specifications into commercially successful products
Negotiation and cost analysis
* Determine the best purchasing strategies through analysis of market trends, pricing data, and economic factors
* Utilise in depth costing knowledge to negotiate costs with suppliers, to achieve savings and maximise profitability
* Drive consolidation opportunities to improve efficiency both internally and externally with the supply base
* Take accountability for the tender process on key volume lines
* Creation and maintenance of required records and reporting
People Leadership
* Lead and engage colleagues to create and retain a high performing team
* Act as a role model for personal growth whilst supporting career development and progression across the team

Skills and Experience
* Background of buying multi product areas for a minimum of 3 years
* Proven experience of a leadership role in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain management
* Thorough understanding of Supply Chain Management - including raw material and production trends
* Knowledge of sourcing strategies, supplier management and purchasing best practice
* Exceptional negotiation and communications skills
* Ability to build and maintain strong relationships both internally and externally with a focus on collaborating, tackling issues and managing risk
* Ability to manage multiple tasks, stakeholders and deadlines in a time pressured environment whilst maintaining accuracy and attention to detail
* Strategic and analytical thinking with the ability to provide information and analysis in a clear, concise and impactful way
