: Founded in 1959 and located on a beautiful 28-acre campus in Malvern, PA, VFES and the Vanguard School are dedicated to the growth and development of children and young adults with a variety of special needs. Through a collaborative and holistic approach to each individual served by the continuum of educational, recreation, and employment services offered, VFES commits to helping all students and participants develop a strong sense of self-worth in their communities in an environment driven by respect, appreciation, learning, and growth. Instruct students and facilitate academic and social-emotional learning in the absence of the regularly assigned teacher. It is the responsibility of an itinerant teacher to move the learning process forward and maintain continuity in instruction. It is expected that this teacher will create classroom conditions conducive to dedicated learning. The itinerant teacher may receive daily, weekly, or long term assignments depending on the need of The Vanguard School and at the discretion of administration and may also substitute in other areas (i.e. as an instructional assistant) when needed. Our students are ages 5 to 21 and our class sizes are small between 4 to 6 students in each class. WHAT YOU'LL DO: Maintain attendance records and follow the daily schedules for individual students and the class assigned. Execute (and may be asked to plan) instructional delivery that is goal related, clearly states expectations, involves equitable student participation, is properly paced, allows for differentiation, and includes assessment. Collect data and document as needed for classroom and individual students. Implement curriculum, individualized education plans, and classroom lesson plans as necessary for the assigned students and classes. Consistently implement school wide behavioral programs as well as individualized student positive behavior support plans. Document behavioral incidents as per building procedures. Supervise students at all times in accordance with policy for student health and safety. This would include instructional time and assigned duties such as homeroom, lunch, playground, transportation, trips, etc. Oversee and facilitate the case management of students as assigned to maintain all PDE and Vanguard requirements; including but not limited to, writing IEPs and attending IEP meetings and completing evaluation and re-evaluation reports. Carry out all building and classroom procedures in the absence of the regular teacher. Provide written or telephone communication with families. Provide coverage for staff to attend meetings, conferences, or workshops as deemed appropriate by the program supervisor. Follow established procedures, school policy and state regulations in all matters of employment. Demonstrate competency in each of the VFES core values: Communication and Listening, Critical Thinking and Problem Solving, Ethics, Professionalism, and Teamwork. Comply with all organizational policies and procedures including those stated in the VFES Policies & Procedures manual and additional verbal and written communications provided to staff members. Maintain a professional, confidential and ethical relationship with administrators, colleagues, parents, students, and others at all times. Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, in-service activities, and other meetings as required. Maintain proper credentials for assignment and remain educationally informed in all related areas including PDE regulations and state/national standards through continued professional study and attending workshops and conferences. Perform related duties, special assignments and projects as assigned. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR: Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Elementary Education, or a related field. Current, valid Pennsylvania certification in Special Education. Exposure to and participation in appropriate special education related programming. Ability to recognize the individuality and uniqueness of each student & treat him/her with respect & dignity. Ability to engage intellectually and physically in all components of the educational process. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with all constituents (administrators, colleagues, students, parents, and others). Knowledge of correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary. Ability to use computers and perform clerical skills at a proficient level.
