The Opportunity
Essex County Council aims to improve outcomes for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Our vision is for a SEND system that identifies and assesses needs earlier and provides appropriate support, reducing dependence on statutory services.
The SEND Operations Assistant will support statutory SEND processes, such as the Annual Review, especially during phase transfer, and provide triage support for all contacts received by the SEND Operations Team. Support will also be provided to the Inclusion Team regarding health referrals.
Applicants should have an RQF Level 2 qualification, thorough knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice 2015, and experience working with young people with SEND.
Accountabilities
1. Receive, log, and coordinate responses to Section 23 and 24 notifications from health colleagues regarding children with SEND; liaise with Senior Inclusion Partners for monitoring and signposting.
2. Handle incoming post-16 assessment requests, coordinating with schools, settings, and the Preparing for Adulthood Team.
3. Assist in preparing papers and coordinating the Annual Review process, ensuring timely communication with schools and appropriate invitations.
4. Provide triage for all incoming contacts to the SEND Operations team, acting as the first point of contact for parents, carers, CYP, schools, settings, and partner agencies; signpost to relevant services as needed.
5. Support SEND Operations Co-Ordinators by managing formal consultations and responses during the EHC Assessment Process.
6. Receive, log, and direct inward transfer notifications, ensuring statutory processes are followed within deadlines.
7. Maintain tracking systems for students at phase transfer, supporting timely statutory processes and EHCP management.
8. Ensure accurate and timely data recording to support reporting and monitoring of statutory timescales, placements, and pupil records.
The Experience You Will Bring
* Educated to RQF Level 2 or equivalent through experience.
* Evidence of ongoing professional development and expertise in relevant areas.
