Overview

York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Healthcare Support Worker. The closing date is 08 October 2025.

We are looking for people who are caring, compassionate and love the challenge of a busy unit. You will be guided in your role by our friendly and supportive team. You will need to demonstrate excellent communication skills, a positive professional manner, adaptability to change and the ability to work well with a diverse team of professionals. This role requires cross-site working.


Main duties of the job

* To assist the registered practitioner in providing high quality compassionate care and assistance to patients/relatives and their carers, appropriate to their needs.
* Responsible for carrying out tasks as delegated by the registered practitioner, who has overall accountability for delegating care.
* To provide pastoral support to new starters to the ward in a kind and compassionate manner.
* To use own initiative within the level of competence to complete day to day activities for the role.

Person Specification


Skills and Attributes

* Ability to communicate health related information in an understandable way to patients and colleagues, adapting communication style to meet the needs of the recipient
* Understanding of confidentiality requirements in a healthcare setting


Qualifications & Education

* Successful completion of the care certificate
* Level 2 Maths and English (GCSE A-C or equivalent) or Functional Skills Level 2
* Level 3 qualification or equivalent (UK equivalent) (Health and Social Care qualification preferred) or working towards


Knowledge & Experience

* 3 Years previous health care assistant experience.
