The Team Leader works hands-on within the home and is responsible for the overall supervision and success of the team. Responsibilities include ensuring excellence in resident care, supporting families, retaining dedicated staff, and facilitating ongoing training. This role is not supernumerary but allocates time for management tasks. It serves as a stepping stone for those aspiring to become Deputy Managers.
Main Responsibilities
1. Coordinate the resident assessment process alongside the Deputy Manager, ensuring resident involvement and integration into care plans.
2. Ensure all resident information is accurately documented and communicated for a person-centred approach.
3. Work hands-on with the team to maintain appropriate care levels.
4. Manage medication administration and conduct audits, including pharmacy processes, and identify training needs.
5. Assist in recruiting the care team through the Cinnamon process, managing contracted hours and monitoring recruitment needs.
6. Communicate regularly with families regarding resident needs and progress.
7. Handle team member absences and conduct return-to-work sessions with support from the Deputy Manager and Home Administrator.
8. Oversee effective shift handovers and keep the Deputy and General Manager informed.
9. Provide daily coaching and support to Care Assistants, leading by example.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
* NVQ Level 3 in Care is essential; NVQ Level 4 in Care, Registered Managers Award, or QCF Level 4 Diploma in Management are desirable.
* Minimum two years’ experience in long-term care or a similar industry.
* Experience in planning, implementing, evaluating, and documenting care delivery.
* Experience working with older people.
