Monarch Education is recruiting on behalf of a primary school in West Bromwich for an EYFS Teaching Assistant with specific experience in Read Write Inc. (RWI) phonics. This position is to start as soon as possible (ASAP) on a full-time basis and has the potential to become a permanent role for the right candidate. The successful candidate will be a dedicated and experienced Teaching Assistant who is passionate about early years education and possesses a strong understanding of supporting young children's holistic development within the EYFS framework. Expertise in the RWI phonics program and a recognized Early Years qualification are essential. Key Responsibilities of an EYFS Teaching Assistant: Supporting Learning and Development: Work closely with the EYFS teacher to support the planning and delivery of engaging and age-appropriate learning activities across all areas of the EYFS curriculum (e.g., Communication and Language, Physical Development, Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, Expressive Arts and Design). Provide targeted support to individual children or small groups to help them achieve their learning goals. Facilitate children's learning through play-based activities, encouraging exploration, curiosity, and independence. Delivering RWI Phonics Support: Crucially, confidently support or lead Read Write Inc. (RWI) phonics sessions, following the school's established program. Assist children in developing their phonological awareness, letter recognition, blending, and segmenting skills. Listen to children read and support their early reading development. Creating a Positive Learning Environment: Contribute to creating a safe, stimulating, and enabling indoor and outdoor learning environment that reflects the principles of the EYFS. Organise and maintain learning resources, ensuring they are accessible and well-presented. Assist with setting up and clearing away activities. Supporting Child Welfare and Well-being: Supervise children during learning activities, playtime, and lunchtimes, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times. Support children's personal care needs where necessary. Promote positive behaviour, social skills, and emotional regulation through guidance and encouragement. Build positive and trusting relationships with children, fostering their confidence and sense of belonging. Observation and Assessment: Make observations of children's learning and development, contributing to assessment records and tracking progress. Share observations and insights with the class teacher to inform future planning and support. Contribute to the completion of relevant documentation as required. Collaboration and Communication: Work effectively as a key member of the EYFS team, collaborating with the teacher, other teaching assistants, and support staff. Communicate relevant information about children's progress or well-being to the class teacher. Engage in positive communication with parents and carers under the direction of the class teacher. Participate in team meetings, training, and professional development opportunities. Key Skills and Qualifications: Qualifications: Essential: Minimum of Level 2 qualification in Early Years or equivalent. Experience: Proven experience working as a Teaching Assistant within an Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) setting. Essential: Direct experience supporting children with Read Write Inc. (RWI) phonics. Experience in supporting children's early literacy, numeracy, and holistic development. Skills and Attributes: Strong understanding of the EYFS framework and child development. Sound knowledge and experience of implementing the RWI phonics program. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, particularly with young children and adults. Patience, empathy, and a nurturing approach to working with young children. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Reliability, punctuality, and a proactive attitude. Personal Specification: A genuine passion for early years education and a commitment to supporting young children's growth and learning. Enthusiasm for and experience with the RWI phonics program. Ability to build strong and positive relationships with children, parents, and colleagues. Professional, dedicated, and committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
