SEMH Teaching Assistant - Cannock

Support, guide, and inspire young minds.

Are you looking for a rewarding role where you can truly make a difference? A welcoming and supportive school in Cannock is seeking a compassionate and proactive SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. If you're passionate about helping children re-engage with learning, manage emotions, and develop confidence, this could be the role for you.

About the Role:

As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you'll work with pupils across Key Stages 1-4 who may also have additional needs such as Autism, ADHD, or speech and language difficulties. Your role will be to build positive relationships, support emotional regulation, and encourage academic progress in and out of the classroom. Each day brings something new-whether you're helping to calm a difficult situation, delivering tailored support during lessons, or simply offering a listening ear, your presence will make a real impact.

Responsibilities:

* Supporting students with SEMH and related conditions including ASD and ADHD
* Encouraging engagement and participation in class-based and individual learning activities
* Promoting emotional well-being and helping students develop positive coping strategies
* Reinforcing boundaries and supporting behavioural interventions
* Working closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and external agencies to ensure consistent, child-centred support

What We're Looking For:

We're looking for a candidate with resilience, empathy, and a calm, confident approach. Experience working in a school or similar setting is essential, particularly with children who display challenging behaviour. Any training in behaviour management strategies such as Team Teach or MAPA would be an advantage.

You must be able to remain patient under pressure, adapt to the needs of different students, and contribute positively to a strong, supportive team environment.

In Return, You'll Receive:

* A long-term, meaningful role with the chance to create lasting change
* Ongoing support from a dedicated SEN consultant at Academics
* Competitive rates of pay and access to our Refer a Friend bonus scheme
* An inclusive school setting that values wellbeing and teamwork

If you're ready to take on a role that's both challenging and deeply rewarding, apply today to become a SEMH Teaching Assistant in Cannock.
