Job summary
Imperial College London and the University of Cumbria have entered into a partnership to form the Pears Cumbria School of Medicine (PCSM), based at the University of Cumbria at the Carlisle Fusehill street campus. As Subject Lead for Clinical Communication Skills, you will be responsible for the planning, development, and delivery of innovative and engaging learning events, along with associated teaching, learning, and assessment materials.
Main duties of the job
You will develop, coordinate, and deliver learning opportunities to support students in developing the fundamental skills required to communicate professionally, effectively, and empathically with patients, their relatives, carers, and colleagues using various modes of communication, including spoken, written, and digital. Working closely with the Head of Curriculum Development and the subject leads for Professionalism, Medical Ethics and Law, and Clinical Skills and Simulation, you will create integrated learning experiences to help students understand their professional roles and responsibilities as both students and future doctors. You will also support their development of communication skills necessary for the Medical Licensing Assessment and clinical practice challenges. Collaborating with the Head of Assessments, you will develop and deliver formative and summative assessment materials aligned with learning outcomes, enabling students to monitor their progress and prepare for assessments like the Clinical and Professional Skills assessment. The curriculum is being designed collaboratively with academic and clinical colleagues to address the school's vision and the unique challenges of delivery across Cumbria.

What you would be doing: You will develop, coordinate, and deliver learning opportunities to help students develop essential communication skills—professional, effective, and empathetic—using spoken, written, and digital modes. Collaborating with the Head of Curriculum Development and subject leads for professionalism, ethics, law, and clinical skills, you will create integrated learning experiences to help students understand their roles and responsibilities and prepare for assessments like the Medical Licensing Assessment. Working with the Head of Assessments, you will develop formative and summative assessments aligned with learning outcomes, enabling students to monitor their progress and prepare effectively for assessments such as the Clinical and Professional Skills assessment. The curriculum is being collaboratively designed to meet the school's vision and address delivery challenges across Cumbria.
What we are looking for
* A primary medical qualification (MBBS or equivalent), full GMC registration, and Membership of the relevant Royal College.
* Clinically active, working as a Consultant, General Practitioner, or SAS doctor.
