Whitburn Academy is a six-year comprehensive school offering our 855 students in the Whitburn area a progressive, relevant, challenging, and enjoyable curriculum with opportunities for personalisation and choice. We strive to ensure that students have the highest quality learning experiences.
We offer the full range of National Qualifications found in a modern Scottish secondary school. Our aim is to provide experiences that foster a creative and enterprising attitude in our students, developing young people with pride and ambition to contribute positively to their community locally, nationally, and internationally.
Whitburn Academy provides an environment where all students can succeed. Our excellent facilities and dedicated staff enable us to deliver the highest standard of education in a safe, caring, and stimulating environment—where every member of the school community is valued and their achievements recognized.
We recognize that the curriculum encompasses not only ‘what’ students learn but also ‘how’ they learn. We emphasize the student experience and seek flexibility to ensure success in examinations and personal achievement pathways.
The school has 65 teaching staff, with departments organized under the direction of a Principal Teacher Curriculum responsible for each curricular area.
You will collaborate with all stakeholders within Whitburn Academy to ensure a high-quality student experience aligned with curricular design principles and student entitlements, aiming to maximize achievement and attainment for all. Our vision, “Empowering our young people to learn and achieve, allowing them to thrive now and in the future,” guides our daily work with students. The school values—compassion, integrity, respect—are central to our community life.
We are committed to employing a diverse workforce that reflects the people of Scotland. We welcome applications from all backgrounds, especially from groups underrepresented, including people with disabilities, those from minority ethnic communities, or socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
West Lothian Council is dedicated to transforming how we deliver Education Services. This includes providing the support and environment necessary for staff development. Our commitment is demonstrated by achieving the Investors in People Standard and continually striving for excellence in service delivery and improvement.
A relevant teaching qualification and registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland are essential.
