About The Role

We’re seeking a skilled Workshop Controller with strong technical and leadership abilities to join our Specialist Fleet Services (SFS) team.
Purpose of the role
This key role involves managing a busy municipal workshop, overseeing daily operations, routine maintenance, and repairs for a varied fleet of vehicles and equipment.
Duties and responsibilities
1. Manage daily workshop operations including work loading, scheduling, quality assurance, and technical support.
2. Diagnose and repair a diverse fleet of vehicles and assets.
3. Complete all paperwork promptly and accurately.
4. Ensure correct and complete documentation before work begins.
5. Schedule vehicle services and MOTs at least three months in advance.
6. Maintain up-to-date service schedules and recommend adjustments as needed.
7. Review vehicle maintenance history for warranty and repeat jobs.
8. Maintain courteous and professional interactions with customers and colleagues.
9. Coordinate paperwork flow across departments.
10. Rebook unfinished work, order parts, and communicate with customers.
11. Manage holiday and standby rotas to ensure coverage.
12. Report urgent issues to the Contract Manager.
13. Perform other duties and cover at different workshops as required.
14. Uphold high standards of customer service and service quality.
About You
Skills
* Experience in heavy vehicle workshops and maintenance environments.
* Ability to maintain light and heavy vehicles.
* Municipal fleet knowledge.
* Leadership and motivation skills.
* Accurate and timely paperwork skills.
* Parts management and stock control experience.
* Proficiency with vehicle management systems.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Strong personnel management skills.
* Hold an HGV License (Category C).
Qualifications and experience
Relevant automotive apprenticeship, HNC in Automotive Engineering and Science, or equivalent. CPC qualification in Road Haulage and Fleetwave system knowledge are advantageous.
Working hours
45 hours/week, Monday to Friday, with variable daily hours (one hour for lunch).
