Specialist Physiotherapist

We are looking for an experienced Physiotherapist to work within the spinal injuries therapy team at the Princess Royal Spinal Injuries Centre at the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield.
The Princess Royal Spinal Injuries Centre is a modern 60‑bedded, supra‑regional centre for patients who have sustained spinal cord damage as a result of trauma or pathology. Patients are accepted from a wide catchment area covering South Yorkshire and much of East England.
The Physiotherapy department offers a service to all three spinal injury wards from a patient’s initial admission, through to discharge and readmission, as well as outpatients.
The Centre has six occupied beds dedicated to ventilator‑dependent patients.
The Spinal Injuries Physiotherapy Department includes a designated gym, hydrotherapy pool, weights room and access to a sports hall.
There is a well‑established multi‑disciplinary team where all members work collaboratively in the assessment and management of the patient.

Main duties of the job
The postholders must be able to demonstrate:
* Appropriate knowledge and skills to manage a complex neurological caseload.
* Previous NHS experience of working with spinal cord injury patients at a Band 5 or Band 6 level.
* Evidence of commitment to continuous personal and professional development.
* Good basic knowledge of therapy practice for medicine and orthopaedic conditions.
* Competency in physiotherapy clinical reasoning, processes and practices.
* Effective interpersonal, communication and team‑working skills.
* Awareness and evidence of application of Sheffield Teaching Hospitals PROUD Values.
* A full UK driving licence and permission to drive a manual car.
* Candidates should possess a BSc/Diploma in Physiotherapy and current HCPC registration.

Qualifications
* BSc in Physiotherapy or equivalent.
* HCPC registration.
Experience
* Post‑registration NHS experience as a Physiotherapist.
* Post‑registration knowledge and skill to manage a complex specialist caseload in the relevant clinical speciality applied for.
* Clear demonstration of understanding of NHS admission/referral/rehabilitation pathways for respiratory patients (may be adapted to spinal injury pathways).
* Experience and skills in teaching and development of staff and students.
* Experience in emergency respiratory on‑call including weekend work (PT only). (relevant experience in spinal injury settings preferred.)
* Service improvement project experience.
Further training and skills
* Evidence of continuous personal and professional development.
* Good post‑registration theoretical and practical knowledge of therapeutic practice in chosen field.
* Evidence‑based practice/clinical effectiveness coursework.
* Competency in physiotherapy clinical reasoning, processes & practices.
* Excellent interpersonal, communication and team‑working skills.
* Ability to maintain confidentiality.
* Ability to act on own initiative, organise and prioritise work and manage multiple tasks.
* Ability to maintain accurate written records & statistics utilising relevant IT.
* Calm approach to changing work situations.
* Ability to teach and motivate others.
* A full UK driving licence and permission to drive a manual car.
* Understanding of stress and ability to help others cope under pressure.

Salary
£39,959 to £48,117 a year (or pro‑rata for part‑time staff).
