Job summary
* Provide advanced speech and language therapy assessment and treatments and review for voice and dysphagia patients referred into the service. This will be for patients in a variety of settings including home visits, community clinics an at clinics at UHCW.
* Support delivery of the Joint Voice Clinic at UHCW in collaboration with colleagues from ENT.
* Independently manage a caseload of patients with voice and dysphagia needs.
* Provide expert voice and dysphagia advice and guidance to patients, carers, health and social care professionals internal and external to the organisation.
* Be involved in identifying gaps in the voice service and assisting with service improvement to develop the service in line with national and local strategies.
* Be an integral part of the wider Speech and Language Therapy Leadership Team, providing specialist professional voice and dysphagia supervision for Speech and Language Therapists within the team.
* Undertake leadership and line management duties as required for the post.
* Work proactively and collaboratively with colleagues in the multidisciplinary team including ENT, GP, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, dietetics, clinical psychology.
* Work within National and Trust policies/guidelines; and HCPC and RCSLT standards and codes of conduct.
Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.
Main duties of the job
* Undertaking complex assessment of patients with voice disorders and/or dysphagia, and developing individualised management/ treatment plans and specialised programmes of care.
* Working collaboratively with colleagues in ENT and the multidisciplinary team to facilitate running the Joint Voice Clinic and supporting ENT clinics at UHCW
* Using expert clinical reasoning skills to interpret and analyse clinical and non-clinical facts to form accurate diagnosis and prognosis on wide range of conditions relevant to voice and dysphagia, and to recommend the best course of intervention, evaluate outcomes, reassess and develop comprehensive discharge plans.
* Evaluating patient progress, reassessing and altering treatment plans as required taking into account patient goals and priorities.
* Accepting clinical responsibility for the caseload and organise this effectively and efficiently. This will include allocating patients appropriately for less experienced staff.
* Supporting the learning and development of other staff in the areas of voice and dysphagia, particularly more junior members of the team. This will include supporting the delivery of dysphagia competencies.
* Provide specialist advice to relatives, carers and other members of the MDT regarding voice and dysphagia.
