Sizewell C will see the creation of a 3.2 Gigawatt nuclear power station on the Suffolk coast to provide reliable load low-carbon electricity. The Civil Works Alliance is an extended delivery enterprise involving Sizewell C and three international construction companies: Balfour Beatty, Bouygues Travaux Publics and Laing O'Rourke. What you'll be doing The Sizewell C (SZC) project requires a Senior Materials Engineer to support and manage all areas of construction materials testing (including but not limited to concrete, earthworks, aggregates, grout) for the marine and tunnelling portion. The role requires review of technical specifications, proposing suitable materials/solutions and advising on appropriate means of ensuring an integrated design/specification that can support construction including approvals, trials and testing as part of the broader supply chain and procurement related activities. Successful candidate shall manage an experienced team of materials engineers, technicians and consultants. They shall support and coordinate with external design consultant(s) for design of both permanent and temporary works for the development of materials and solutions, ensuring either compatible with existing designs and client specifications or otherwise informing their change if applicable. The project team includes people internal to the Civil Works Alliance (CWA), lead design consultant(s), internal and external temporary work designer(s), and subcontractors. The purpose of the role is: To support the management and delivery of materials engineering services within Sizewell C Civils Alliance for the Marine and Tunnel portion Who we're looking for Must be degree qualified or have relevant professional experience in either Civil/ Structural/ Materials Engineering. • These roles require individuals with strong up to date technical knowledge of materials engineering and industry best practice in all aspects. • They will be a technically proficient with a good understanding in other areas in the engineering field and have the professional credibility to engage and inspire others. • Good working knowledge/understanding of concrete mix design and technical specifications associated with. • The individual will have an understanding of the principles of framework procurement and experience within the most current forms of procurement.
