Overview
The job is to join a small team of Local Nature Reserve Officers in the Countryside Access Team. The post holder will manage a range of Local Nature Reserves and habitats, coastal sites, woodland and parkland landscapes, alongside smaller picnic sites. The postholder will be supported by other Local Nature Reserve Officers and will receive training as required.
Responsibilities
* Manage Local Nature Reserves and associated habitats, including coastal sites, woodlands, parklands and picnic sites.
* Carry out site surveys and organise public events.
* Plan and deliver small-scale works; liaise with and manage volunteers and the community sector; and oversee contractors.
* Utilise strong communication, organisational and IT skills; work on own initiative; identify tasks, plan and prioritise; and operate effectively while lone working in remote countryside.
* Maintain a strong focus on safety and access to machinery and equipment.
Qualifications and requirements
* Experience of landscaping and ground maintenance work; habitat management, woodland management and grounds maintenance are essential.
* Experience of site surveys, and organising public events; liaising with volunteers and community groups; and managing contractors.
* Good communication, organisational and IT skills; ability to work on your own initiative, identify tasks, plan and prioritise; comfortable lone working in remote countryside.
* A strong approach to safety and access to a range of machinery and equipment.
Working pattern
This post is mainly Monday to Friday, but some weekend, bank holiday and evening work may be required.
