Emergency Orthopaedic Unit Senior Health Care Assistant

A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for individuals to join the team within the Surgical, Women's and Children's Division as a Clinical Support Worker. Under the direction of the Sister/Charge Nurse you will help us to ensure that we provide a clean, safe and comfortable environment for our patients. You will need to possess good communication and interpersonal skills. A polite and courteous manner towards patients and relatives will be essential for this role, together with your ability to work under pressure, as part of a team as well as organising your own workload. Previous hospital experience is desirable but not essential as training will be provided to ensure you have the skills required to fulfil the position.


Main duties of the job

JOB SUMMARY:

The post holder will work under the direct supervision of a registered health care professional and be responsible for providing personal care for patients and a range of clinical duties/ tasks, always ensuring that actions are undertaken by the individual following appropriate training and within their sphere of competence. Provide training, direction, and supervision to junior staff.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Completed the national care certificate
* Functional skills minimum level 2 Maths & English GCSE equivalent or working towards


Knowledge

* Awareness and understanding of importance of confidentiality
* Knowledge of Infection Control & Safeguarding processes


Experience

* Experience working in a healthcare setting.
* Worked at a band 2 Health Care Assistant level or equivalent
* Experience of working with the multidisciplinary team.
* Experience of caring for patients.
* Experience of support and supervision of junior staff
* Experience of supporting Quality Improvement /audits / research and development activities


Skills & Abilities

* Good communication skills (written and verbal).
* Competent at a range of clinical duties, within 6 months
* Accuracy and attention to detail
* Able to work in a team.
* Able to carry out routine duties, adapt and reprioritise according to patients needs as necessary
* Able to work on own initiative in delivery of patient care
* Ability to supervise staff
* Able to build effective relationships with patients/relatives/visitors/ Colleagues/the multi-disciplinary team and wider Trust staff
* Basic computer skills with ability / willingness to develop further IT skills.
* Committed to delivering high standards of patient care.
* Able to demonstrate a caring, friendly, open, empathetic and compassionate demeanour.
* Professional outlook and positive attitude.
* Able to challenge unacceptable behaviour and escalate issues/ concerns both timely and appropriately

* Able to meet the flexible needs of the role and duty roster
