Job Description Job Title: Salaried General Practitioner Reports to: The GP Partners (clinically) and Practice Manager (administratively) Operationally Responsible to: Practice Manager Contract: 12 month fixed term with the potential to extend Hours: Part-time (4 sessions a week with possibility, subject to funding, for temporary additional sessions) Location: Townside Primary Care Centre, Knowsley Street,Bury BL9 0SN Salary: 10.5k session (£42,000 4 sessions) Key Working Relationships: Primary Health Care Team including GPs, practice nurses, business practice manager, district nurses,health visitors, midwives, podiatrists, physiotherapists, patients, hospitalstaff, social work staff, local care home staff. Job summary The post holder will support the five GP partners to managea busy, interesting clinical caseload ensuring the highest standard of care forall registered and temporary patients. The post-holder will have theopportunity to lead on a key disease area and assist in developing services forthe urban patient list. The post holder will carry out all the duties reasonablyexpected of an NHS general practitioner using the standards expected by the GMCand RCGP in line with appropriate national and/or local guidelines. Clinical Responsibilities In accordance with the practice rota, the post holder willmake him/herself available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery,telephone and electronic consultations and queries, visiting patients homes,checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperworkand correspondence in a timely fashion. Responding to medical problems presented by temporaryresidents. Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation topresenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health careworkers within the organisation. Assessing the health care needs of patients withundifferentiated and undiagnosed problems. Screening patients for disease risk factors and earlysigns of illness. In consultation with patients and in line with current practicedisease management protocols, developing care plans for health management. To assist in the establishment of appropriate systems tomanage common chronic medical conditions e.g. asthma, diabetes. Providing counselling and health education. Making appropriate and timely referral of patients forfurther opinion and treatment using C&B gateway. Following all Practice,NHS England and Greater Manchester ICB guidelines as appropriate. Dictating own referrals, clinical software consultationinformation and internal/external emails. Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes toagreed standards including the recording of appropriate information for theQuality and Outcomes Framework and Enhanced Services. Prescribing in accordance with Practice policy and NHSEngland Formulary as clinically appropriate. To participate in targeted health promotion activity tobenefit patients. Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeatprescriptions. Appropriate medicine prescribing for both acute and repeatrequirement in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary andguidelines whenever this is clinically appropriate. Timely assessment of incoming electronic and papercorrespondence relating to both patient and non patient information asrequired. Using the appropriate electronic systems. Participate in training plans of GP registrar, medical andnursing students as required. To complete insurance, DSS, DVLA and other reportsrelating to patients under your care. In general the post holder will be expected to undertakeall the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working withinprimary care and any other duties reasonably required by the practice. Workload Requirements within the Organisation The post-holder will be required to work with flexibility toensure a workable rota. Surgeries the post holder will work 4/8 sessions perweek. Each session will last 4 hours and 10 minutes. The working hours arebetween 8.00 and 6.30pm Monday to Friday.Patient appointments are 10 minutes. Home Visits the post holder will be required to carryout home visits occasionally. Home visits are normally carried out aftermorning surgery. Administration the post holder will be required toensure that all relevant administration is completed during normal workinghours. This includes completion of medical/insurance examinations in a timelyand appropriate manner to meet the needs of the practices registered patients. On-call take part in the surgery rota for on-call todeal as a first contact for all staff and nursing queries as well as handlingpatient requests and incoming laboratory results. Practice Organisation Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practicepolicies/guidelines e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, healthand safety. Process and action incoming patient and hospitalcorrespondence. Attendance at Primary Health Care Team and Clinical Teammeetings. Adhere to the practice complaint management system. Maintaining regular, consistent and professionalattendance, punctuality and personal appearance. Ensuring daily effective handling of all incomingcommunication including emails. Maintaining, Monitoring and Updating Computerised PatientRecords Contributing to the development of computer based patientrecords. Contributing to the summarising of patient records andcoding patient data. Ensure clinical database is updated promptly andaccurately as required for practice protocols, QOF, Enhanced Services etc. Respond to alerts on patient records. Appropriate use of Snomed codes as agreed within thepractice. Participate in the collection and collation of statisticsas required. Participate in audits of clinical work and patientsatisfaction. Confidentiality To follow current GMC guidelines and practice policy toensure patients have the confidence and right to expect that staff will respecttheir privacy and dignity and act appropriately. Information relating to patients, carers, colleagues orother healthcare workers or issues relating to the business of the practice mayonly be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the above guidelinesand policy.
