How you'll make a differenceAs a Road Safety Officer, you will play a key role in helping to understand local road safety priorities through the management and use of road safety data. To help make a safer environment for everyone, you will identify mitigations to reduce the number of people being injured on our roads. What you will be doingIt will be your responsibility to collate, validate, manage and interpret Stats19 and other road safety data. Using your experience and knowledge, you will undertake collision investigations and recommend appropriate safety improvements to overcome identified hazards.You will design and deliver small road safety promoted highway schemes.Forming part of a Road Safety Audit team, you will help assess future and recently completed highway initiatives.You will produce reports on reported casualties on South Gloucestershire roads for senior managers, lead members and colleagues.It will be key for you to co-ordinate the deployment of road safety and speed monitoring equipment.When required, you will attend regional and national conferences and events. What we need from youTo carry out Road Safety Audits, we require you to either hold or be working towards a specialist road safety qualification.You must have practical experience working with road safety data and how to present it to a range of audiences.It is essential that you have a thorough knowledge of highway design standards, Road Safety Audit procedures and handling data.You will have good verbal and written communication skills, enabling you to effectively write reports and respond to queries to a variety of audiences.You must be able to demonstrate experience of co-ordinating small highway engineering schemes or programmes of work. What you need to knowThis role is hybrid, with a mixture of working at our office in Broad Lane, Yate and from home. You will be expected to travel throughout the authority and surrounding area so you must have a full, valid driving licence with regular access to a vehicle or have an alternative means of travel.
