Nurse Practitioner - Breast Services (One Stop)

Suitable post for an experienced registered nurse with established clinical skills and a wish to further develop specialist clinical skills and knowledge as an independent practitioner.
Responsibilities
* Deliver a quality of service matching clinical need to available resources within the focus of specialist nursing practice.
* Provide a prompt response to calls from colleagues, prioritising importance and clinical need.
* Manage own caseload to include assessment, investigation, diagnosis and treatment within defined parameters and training.
* Provide immediate care management of patient, including communication of plan to patients and significant others.
* Review and refer to appropriate person, e.g., AHP, resident medical staff, specialist registrar or critical care outreach team.
* Liaise with Patient Services Coordinator where necessary.
* Communicate within multidisciplinary team, ward/departmental staff and/or out of hour teams.
* Provide specialist education and training to departmental nursing staff.
* Ensure the patient is the central focus of a streamlined patient journey ensuring optimal quality of care.
Requirements
* Recent experience as a Nurse Practitioner, including extended clinical practice.
* Post‑registration experience at a senior level within the specialist area of practice.
* Evidence of ongoing continuous professional development.
* Ability to work independently and across disciplines as a member of a multi‑disciplinary team.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including effective report writing.
* Good organisational and time‑management skills.
* Change‑management skills and involvement in project work.
* Knowledge and understanding of relevant NHS policy or project‑specific policy context.
* Effective leadership skills/knowledge (e.g., Leadership course (LEO)).
* Good IT skills.
* Knowledge and experience of adult/child safeguarding.
Qualifications
* NMC Registered.
* Degree or Masters level study, or equivalent specialist study/experience.
* Relevant clinical skills course.
* Extended Nurse Prescribing (if relevant to role).
* Clinical history taking and physical examination skills comparable to a junior doctor (or willingness to work towards this).
Special Skills & Knowledge
* Communicates using high level skills, highly complex, sensitive information with patients and carers on condition‑related information to ensure their active involvement in negotiating treatment/diagnostic plans, including the informed consent process.
* Acknowledges and accommodates barriers to communication and understanding including speech, hearing, language and emotion (persuasion may be required), e.g. using interpreters/language line as required.
* Provides specialist advice to a range of health‑care professionals within the scope of specialist practice.
* Provides expert clinical advice within the scope of own specialist practice and support to the multidisciplinary team.
* Liaises with other nursing staff and members of multidisciplinary teams in order to achieve optimum levels of care in relation to specialised area of practice.
* Compiles comprehensive medical and nursing records in accordance with Trust guidelines and NMC standards.

* Proven ability to work well within a team.
* Ability to liaise well with colleagues in other specialties.
* Good communication and interpersonal skills.
* Good discipline and motivation.
* Able to meet all travel requirements of the post.
