A rare opportunity has arisen for an accomplished Managing Quantity Surveyor to provide commercial leadership on a flagship £60m civil engineering project in Hampshire for a Tier 1 contractor. Created following the award of a major new contract, this position offers a senior professional the chance to take full commercial ownership of a high-profile scheme and play a pivotal role in the successful delivery of a complex infrastructure project. The Role Reporting into senior commercial and operational leadership, the Managing Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for setting and delivering the commercial strategy for the project while leading a multi-disciplinary commercial team. The role carries significant autonomy and influence across project decision-making. Key responsibilities include: Overall commercial leadership and governance of the project from contract award through final account Developing and implementing the commercial strategy to maximise value, margin, and cash flow Leading, mentoring, and performance-managing the project commercial team Strategic management of subcontract procurement, commercial risk, and supply chain relationships Ownership of cost forecasting, financial reporting, and commercial performance reviews Proactive management of change, compensation events, and early warnings under NEC contracts Senior stakeholder engagement with clients, partners, and internal leadership teams Providing high-level commercial and contractual advice to support operational and strategic decision-making Ensuring compliance with company's commercial procedures, controls, and best practices Experience Required Applicants will be degree qualified (HNC / BSc or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline and will demonstrate a strong track record operating at Managing Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor level within the civil engineering sector. Extensive experience delivering major civils, infrastructure, or utilities projects In-depth knowledge of NEC contracts and commercial risk management Proven leadership capability with experience managing and developing commercial teams Strong strategic, analytical, and commercial judgement Confident communicator with the gravitas to influence senior stakeholders and project outcomes This role is suited to an established Managing Quantity Surveyor or a highly experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor ready to step into a senior commercial leadership role on a major project.
