Are you aqualified, NMC registered, Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) SchoolNurse or are a student SCPHN School Nurse, qualifying in the next fewmonths?

Main duties of the job

We have within Waltham Forest excellent opportunities within our 0-19 team for innovative and motivated School Nurses who are keen to contribute to the further development of our service.

We have excellent partnership working with Waltham Forest Public Health Service, Primary and Secondary Schools, and General Practitioners to enable the Best Start in life and optimisation of health outcomes for children and young people.

Job responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

* To manage a caseload of designated schoolsor area as the named health professional, with responsibility for the planningand delivery of the publichealth initiatives to the caseload.
* To be responsible for identifying need within a school or community throughprofiling.
* To use a child,young person publichealth approach to address healthinequalities. Including the promotion of good health and the prevention of ill healthin the school, supporting schoolsto manage children and young people with medical conditions
* To support the implementation of service development, standard setting, clinicalaudit and benchmarking, to deliverneeds-led evidence-based care that supportsthe local and nationalpriorities and policies.
* To be the principalpoint of contactfor allocated schoolsin an area/locality. To developand deliver co-operative working arrangements with schools that support healthyoutcomes for children, young people and facilitate partnership working across schoolsand other partner organisations.
* To work with public health,local statutory, privateand voluntary providers, and users to develop and promote practicethat is accessible and responsive to all sectionof the schools community, ensuringthat services are targeted to the most vulnerable groupsand individuals to support socialinclusion.
* To participate in the Early Health Assessment process and supportthe lead professional as appropriate.
* To provide and promoteaccess to information and other services, to refer as appropriate
* To liaise and work in partnership with statutory and non-statutory agencies, and other health servicescolleagues.
* To identify children in need and children in need of protection, and work with other agencies to support vulnerable families.
* To adhere to currentLocal Safeguarding Boardand London Child Protection Procedures.
* To participate in regulardiscussion with ClinicalLocality and Safeguarding Team about childrengiving cause forconcern.
* To maintain and developclinical skills in response to the changingneeds, including outbreaksof communicable diseases,programmes of immunisation and health promotion.
* To take responsibility for the deliveryof extended healthservices and specialist community clinics as appropriate.
* To take the lead for a clinical area (to be agreed on appointment) and being responsible for maintaining up to date knowledgeand passing information to the wholeservice. This may include a training role, producing and maintainingstandards, protocols.
* To undertake any other duties asrequired by the Team Leader,SHWS Lead or Director, as required providing it is withinthe incumbents sphereof competence.
* To run training/advice sessionsfor colleagues, parents/carers, schools and otherservice users


Person Specification


Experience

* Experience of working in school nursing or community setting.


Qualifications

* Registered Nurse, Children's Nurse, Midwife, or Mental Health Nurse with current NMC registration and Specialist Community Public Health Nursing qualification.


Experience

* Experience of working across organisational boundaries within Health/Social care.


Experience

* Experience of managing own caseload, supervising others and delivery training and education programmes.
