Job title: Facilities Manager (Outstations)

Location: Flexible home base with regularly weekly travel (up to 3 days per week)

Salary: Between £55,000 - £65,000 DOE

Join us at Hitachi Rail and be part of a team that’s shaping the future of our rail infrastructure. We’re looking for a passionate and experienced Facilities Manager to lead the facilities operations across our UK Outstations. In this pivotal role, you’ll take ownership of the facilties infrastructure across all Outstations, ensuring everything runs smoothly to support daily train fleet availability. You’ll be the driving force behind maintaining high standards, meeting contractual and legal requirements, and managing a significant facilities budget.

We are flexible where someone is based but the successful person must be willing to travel, roughly 3 days per week - national coverage.

What You’ll Be Doing:

1. Lead infrastructure management across Outstations, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.

2. Own the facilities budget, working closely with finance to produce monthly reports.

3. Coordinate with key stakeholders including Facility Planners, Outstation teams, contractors, and materials teams to resolve daily operational issues.

4. Maintain accurate records in the maintenance management system for full audit compliance.

5. Produce performance reports aligned with KPIs, legal standards, and contractual obligations.

6. Support audits from internal and external bodies such as ORR and BSI.

7. Collaborate on procurement, helping to develop specifications and tender documents for services and goods.

8. Oversee contractor activities, reviewing work plans, RAMS, and conducting risk assessments.

9. Manage seasonal tasks like Winterisation and Summarisation to ensure safe working conditions.

10. Ensure compliance with IMS standards and certifications including ISO 9001, 14001, and 18001.

About you

Essential

11. Prior experience working in a facilities management role is essential.

12. Sound knowledge and implementation/compliance of rules, regulations and policies.

13. Experience of managing small teams of staff and contractors.

14. Strong communication skills to converse with all stakeholders, both internally and externally.

15. An NVQ3 /C&G electrical or mechanical craft apprenticeship (or relevant experience/qualification)

16. Hold a BIFM Facilities Management qualification or relevant experience/qualification)

17. Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) Certificate in Environmental Work Place Safety and Standards or relevant experience/qualification.

18. Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) certification in Managing Safely. or relevant experience/qualification.

Desirable

19. Full Member of (BIFM) British Institute of Facilities Management

20. Member CIOB Chartered Institute of Building/ Member BICS British Institute of Cleaning Science L8 Legionella & the Role of the Responsible Person.

21. Experience of Permanent Way Asset Management and Network Rail Standards.

22. Previous experience of general routine building maintenance in an industrial environment is essential M+E, HVAC and Civil Engineering. IEE 18th Edition wiring regulations.

23. Powered Plant – Fork Lift Truck, MEWP and Maintenance of safety critical machinery.

24. Schematics reading, Electronic Circuit Diagrams.

25. Contractor Management and work force resource implementation.

26. Management skills E.G Personal/Team Leadership, Contract/Negotiation Skills
