Overview
This is an exciting opportunity to join and contribute to a psychologically-led healthcare team. The role is to provide a high-quality specialist psychology service for young people in two Secure Children's Homes (SCHs) within the Health and Justice Directorate. The young people present with a range of diverse needs including complex trauma, neurodiversity, and common mental health difficulties (e.g., anxiety and depression). They also experience risk to themselves, to others, and risk from others, often in the form of exploitation.
The post involves working within a multidisciplinary mental and physical healthcare team to undertake assessments and interventions directly with young people, their families and carers. It also involves working alongside other Psychology colleagues to implement and embed formulation‑led, trauma‑informed care throughout both SCHs, in line with the NHS England SECURE STAIRS initiative.
This role would particularly suit those interested in working with young people with backgrounds of complex trauma, who pose a risk to themselves and others. Candidates would benefit from previous forensic and clinical experience, with a motivation to develop their clinical experience further. There are opportunities within the team for professional development and training, including EMDR, national Secure Children's Homes network events, and AIM risk assessment training.
The post holder must therefore be able to demonstrate a high level of resilience, be able to manage exposure to potentially distressing and emotive situations and disclosures, and be able to work with young people who present a risk of serious harm to others.
Pre‑Employment Checks
All positions within the Trust are subject to satisfactory pre‑employment checks. If you require a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check for your role, you will be required to enrol in the DBS Update Service for a fee of £16 per year and maintain registration throughout your employment with GMMH.
Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Applications
A candidate may utilise the help of AI when writing job application. The assessment of an application is made on its entirety and most times AI‑generated content does not fully grasp the context and requirements of the job one applies for, thus producing inaccurate and misleading information, especially in the supporting statement section of an application that can lack real‑life examples of one’s achievements, success and challenges.
We have added a disclaimer to our application process advising that the use of AI is monitored. GMMH reserves the right to follow up with a candidate at the interview on specific responses and those examples used in the supporting statement to explore them further.
