About the role

Responsibilities
As a Senior Management Accountant you will provide high‑quality financial services, strengthen financial controls, and influence strategic decision‑making across the Council, supporting Children’s Services.
Qualifications and experience you will bring
* Substantial experience as a technical or professional finance expert within a large, complex organisation.
* Strong expertise in financial reporting, accounting standards, budget management, forecasting, and financial control.
* Deep understanding of financial policies, legislation, external funding, grants, and statutory returns.
* Extensive knowledge of local government finance and wider sector influences.
* Proven experience managing major financial projects, change initiatives, and system/process improvements.
* Outstanding communication, persuasion and influencing skills.
* Excellent analytical ability with strong ICT capability, including Microsoft applications.
Any‑Desk arrangements
As an ‘any‑desk’ worker, you’ll be connected to our network to access digital folders and resources, which can either be from home or an office location when required. You will be required to work from the office a couple of times a week, depending on your role and team requirements.
About you
You will be a confident and influential finance professional with substantial experience in a large and complex organisation. A natural leader, you inspire and develop others while maintaining high performance standards and strong professional credibility. You bring expert knowledge of financial reporting, accounting standards, budget management, forecasting, grants, statutory returns and local government finance. With excellent analytical ability, you can interpret complex financial information, identify trends and risks, and communicate insights clearly to both financial and non‑financial audiences. You thrive in a changing environment, managing projects, improving systems and processes, and driving innovation in financial services. Fully CCAB/CIMA qualified and educated to degree level, you combine strategic awareness with exceptional problem‑solving skills, strong ICT capability for example SAP, and the ability to build relationships, influence outcomes and deliver customer‑focused solutions.
