Housing Coordinator Location: North London (Hybrid working available) Contract: Full-time, Temporary Pay Rate: £27 per hour Are you an experienced housing professional with a passion for preventing homelessness and helping people secure sustainable accommodation? We are seeking a dedicated Housing Coordinator to provide expert advice and practical support to individuals and families at risk of homelessness. The Role As a Housing Coordinator, you will work within a busy homelessness prevention service, supporting residents who are threatened with homelessness or living in unsuitable accommodation. You will offer professional housing advice, manage complex cases, and collaborate with partners such as legal teams, landlords, and courts to achieve the best possible outcomes for service users. You will use a wide range of prevention tools - from rent deposit schemes and Discretionary Housing Payments to mediation and court representation - to sustain existing tenancies or secure new homes in the private rented sector. Key Responsibilities Provide expert housing advice and casework to prevent or delay homelessness. Assess and determine homelessness applications under Part VII of the Housing Act 1996 (as amended). Manage a varied caseload, ensuring compliance with the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017. Liaise with courts, solicitors, landlords, and internal legal services to prevent unlawful evictions. Conduct home visits to verify circumstances and assess property standards. Work collaboratively with internal teams and partner agencies to support vulnerable adults, care leavers, and families. Maintain accurate records, prepare legal responses, and ensure all work meets statutory timescales. Promote access to prevention schemes such as Homefinders, bond or rent deposit schemes, and Discretionary Housing Payments. Apply knowledge of safeguarding principles to protect both vulnerable adults and children. About You Demonstrable experience in homelessness prevention and housing options casework. Sound knowledge of homelessness legislation, housing law, and related case law. Strong understanding of possession proceedings, eviction processes, and tenancy sustainment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex information clearly. Confident in negotiating with landlords, legal representatives, and partner agencies. Capable of working both independently and as part of a multi-agency team. Knowledge of welfare benefits and financial inclusion support.
