Stroke Consultant Physician
Position: Stroke Consultant Physician at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, Queens Medical Centre, Derby Road, Nottingham. Salary: £109,725 to £145,478 per annum. Contract: Permanent. Working pattern: Full‑time.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide full range of stroke emergency and elective patient care across all parts of the stroke service.
* Deliver hyper‑acute, acute, intensive rehabilitation and continuing rehabilitation stroke services.
* Participate in the 24/7 thrombolysis service and regional mechanical thrombectomy service.
* Coordinate multidisciplinary meetings, audits, and research activities within the NIHR Nottingham Biomedical Research Centre.
* Manage clinical diagnostic work and patient administration for admitted stroke patients.
* Travel between City Hospital Campus and Queen’s Medical Centre campus as required.
* Support junior staff, including teaching, training, and clinical supervision.
Programmed Activities (10 PAs)
* Emergency duties (predictable) – 2 PAs
* Emergency duties (unpredictable) – 1 PA
* Operating session (including pre/post‑op) – 1 PA
* Ward rounds – 1 PA
* Out‑patient or other clinics – 1 PA
* Clinical diagnostic work – 1 PA
* Multi‑disciplinary meetings – 1 PA
* Patient administration – 1 PA
* Travelling time between sites – 2 PAs
* Supporting professional activities: training, education, audit, research – 2 PAs
On‑Call Supplement
* On‑call frequency: 1:7.5, Category A, supplement 3%
Qualifications & Experience
* Full GMC registration.
* CCT expected within 6 months of interview date or via CESR route; confirmation of RCP approval to enter the Specialist Register.
* MRCP (mandatory).
* Higher professional degree (desirable).
* Evidence of participation in clinical audit.
* Ability to teach and support junior staff effectively.
* Extensive experience in stroke medicine, including hyper‑acute stroke care and thrombolysis training.
* Comprehensive knowledge of current issues in general internal medicine.
* Technical skills as described in the job description.
* Experience in communication skills training and patient safety/human factors training (desirable).
* Strong management skills: service development, delegation, teamwork, and proven leadership.
* Higher management degree or qualification (desirable).
* Practical requirement: ability to travel between City Hospital Campus and Queen’s Medical Centre campus.
Additional Requirements
* Completion of Disclosure and Barring Service check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
* Certificate of Sponsorship available for skilled worker sponsorship applicants.
* Applicants must hold current UK professional registration.
