Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse to support the Ward Managers and team of nursing staff on Ward 22 Short stay within the Department of Acute Medicine at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
You will be an experienced RGN and be able to lead and assess the work of the nursing team, building upon your own clinical and managerial experience. The successful candidate will support the Ward Managers with continuous improvement of the department, monitoring and maintaining high standards of care reflected in patient experience. Sound clinical knowledge and experience in an acute setting are essential.
The successful candidate must have a proven ability to supervise, manage and control the activities of a department in an efficient and effective manner. This includes assessing and implementing appropriate care for new and current patients while ensuring adequate staffing levels are maintained and resources used appropriately. You will participate in teaching, training and supervision of all staff grades, be receptive to change, and support ongoing development of the department.
You must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a proactive management style, anticipating and addressing issues constructively within a multidisciplinary team. You should be flexible in your approach to the role and responsive to changing workloads. The role requires you to be a role model for continuous professional behaviour and to demonstrate the core values of the Trust with a friendly, patient-centred approach.
Responsibilities
* Lead and assess the nursing team on Ward 22 Short Stay, supporting Ward Managers and maintaining high standards of care.
* Supervise, manage and organise department activities; assess and implement appropriate care while ensuring adequate staffing and efficient use of resources.
* Participate in teaching, training and supervision of all staff grades; support ongoing development and respond to change.
* Communicate effectively within the multidisciplinary team and maintain a proactive management style; adapt to varying workloads.
* Act as a role model for professional behaviour and uphold the Trust's core values.
Qualifications
* Registered General Nurse (RGN) with current registration and substantial experience in a clinical leadership role.
* Experience in an acute/ward environment; ability to lead and manage a nursing team and department.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; proactive, adaptable and collaborative working style.
