Applications are invited for the above post based at The James Cook University Hospital to commence immediately until mid August 2026.

South Tees Trust is one of the largest in the country and provides a comprehensive range of medical and surgical specialities. This is a joint post based at The James Cook University Hospital between Orthopaedic Spinal Surgery and Neurosurgery and in association with the Regional Spinal Cord Injuries Centre.

Main duties of the job

The post will provide training in all aspects of spinal surgery in a unit with an active research programme. The Spinal Surgery service comprises of four Neurosurgeons and four Orthopaedic Spinal Surgeons. The service operates within the context of a major trust with full back up including a Level 1 Trauma Centre, Regional Complex Spinal Hub, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Cancer Centre, Plastic Surgery and Neurophysiological Services.

Adequate UK clinical experience and MRCS qualification are highly desirable.

The ideal candidate would be an enthusiastic keen learner and team worker who is willing to work in a busy spinal team, have more exposure to complex spinal surgery and to be ready to have a job plan at different hospitals/ centres.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Essential criteria

1. FRCS in neurosurgery or trauma and orthopaedics or equivalent

QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Essential criteria

2. FRCS (with log book of operations)
3. Full Registration with the General Medical Council

Desirable criteria

4. CCT/CESR (or working towards)

EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria

5. Clinical experience of ST6+ registrar level work
6. Experience of working in UK as Resident doctor
7. Experience of clinical audit

Desirable criteria

8. Additional experience in spinal surgery
