Working Environment: Prison‑based role with full on‑site delivery
Role Overview
We are seeking a committed and enthusiastic Maths Tutor to deliver high‑quality, engaging Maths teaching to young learners at HMYOI Werrington .
Working with small groups, you will help learners develop essential numeracy skills, build confidence and work towards accredited Maths qualifications that support their long‑term education, employment and personal development goals.

Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning Delivery
Deliver engaging and inclusive Maths sessions tailored to learner needs. - Support learners to develop core numeracy, problem‑solving and functional Maths skills. - Adapt teaching methods to accommodate different learning levels, abilities and styles. - Deliver structured lessons aligned to curriculum requirements and qualification standards. - Provide clear feedback to support learner progress and achievement.
Learner Support & Progression
Design, implement and review individual learning plans (ILPs). - Offer advice, guidance and pastoral support to help learners stay motivated and on track. - Encourage positive learning behaviours and help learners build resilience and confidence. - Support learners in progressing towards accredited qualifications and further learning opportunities.
Quality, Compliance & Collaboration
Ensure all teaching meets internal quality assurance expectations and inspection standards. - Maintain accurate records of attendance, progression and assessment outcomes. - Contribute to curriculum planning and continuous improvement of Maths delivery. - Work collaboratively with the wider education team and prison colleagues to ensure cohesive delivery.
Essential Criteria
Minimum Level 2 qualification in Maths and English. - Strong subject knowledge and confidence delivering Maths up to Level 2. - Experience delivering vocational or classroom‑based learning. - Ability to use a variety of engaging teaching strategies. - Strong communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
Desirable Criteria
Recognised teaching or assessing qualification (e.g., PTLLS, AET, Cert Ed, DTLLS) or willingness to work towards one. - Experience working with diverse learner groups, including young people and those with additional learning needs.
