About the Role
Balfour Beatty is seeking a Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) Advisor to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside project based at our new site in Redcar-in-Cleveland on Teesside. The HSW Advisor will provide advice and support to the NZT project team on specific HS&W duties. They will provide guidance, monitoring and reporting to help achieve our zero harm objectives. The project involves constructing a first-of-a-kind fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage, as part of Teesside’s decarbonised industrial cluster.
What you’ll be doing
* To challenge at all times any unsafe act, behaviour or conditions, by any person, observed or reported.
* Ensuring with Project Site Management and Supervision that all operations and activities are effectively planned and undertaken in compliance with Site and Project HSW requirements.
* Provide the Project Team with competent advice on current H&S legislation, company compliance and project compliance requirements aligned to the Management system.
* Assist project team in undertaking project related risk assessments and preparation of safe systems of work in line with project specifics procedures and arrangements.
* Contribute towards building a positive safety culture by embedding the core principles, e.g. Golden Rules.
* Support effective active monitoring, recording and reporting of our own and subcontractor H&S performance and workplace conditions.
* Actively challenge and report any unsafe behaviours and unsafe conditions and record these via the observation programme.
* Ensure near miss and improvement observation reporting is carried out and maintained.
* Investigate accidents, incidents and near miss events in accordance with project standards to identify and share lessons learned.
* Facilitate effective H&S inductions and relevant HSE training and liaise with the Project Training Coordinator.
* Ensure all enquiries from the Project Team and HS&W function are dealt with accurately and promptly.
* Liaise with HS&W colleagues within the project (including Partners / Client) and attend regular coordination meetings.
* Participate in regular reviews and updates of the Project H&S Management System.
* Develop strong links with our customer in promoting best practice and continual improvement.
* Maintain a visual presence on site and assist with coaching and mentoring of project personnel to ensure continuous improvements are made.
Who we’re looking for
* NEBOSH Certificate / Diploma, C&G, etc.
* Member of the Institution of Occupational Health, Safety and Wellbeing and Health (TechIOSH / GradIOSH).
* Ability to prepare technical inspection, audit reports and other documentation for submission to internal and external stakeholders.
* Experience in conducting and producing incident investigations to a high standard, determining root cause and appropriate corrective actions in the interest of Learning From Experience (LFE).
* Confident with Microsoft Office 365 suite and online databases and general IT.
* Experience of working in multi-discipline engineering construction environments.
