The Recipe
* Own the Control Systems: Maintain and improve all software, hardware infrastructure, and plant control systems.
* Drive Continuous Improvement: Identify and lead projects to boost plant efficiency, reduce downtime, and improve energy usage.
* Foster Innovation: Share ideas and drive new initiatives, contributing to our reliability‑centred maintenance culture.
* Support and Upskill: Empower the wider engineering team with PLC training and technical support.
Role
* Adhere to relevant safety standards across all activities (including external contractors).
* Through effective software and hardware management processes, support and manage the site implementation of a business‑led engineering reliability strategy.
* Support the development of site revenue and capital budgets, while identifying and leading the execution of relevant capital projects.
* Drive a proactive engineering continuous improvement culture cross‑functionally.
* Train and coach Engineers to an agreed working knowledge of PLC/control systems.
* Ensure compliance with quality and food safety legislation, company standards and specifications.
* Maintain supplier contract content & supplier relationships, and review supplier effectiveness.
Essential Ingredients
* Formal electrical automation training with awareness of process and mechanical engineering.
* Experience in fault‑finding and maintaining existing control systems, preferably with Siemens, Schneider or Allen Bradley.
* Experience of software development and common programming languages.
* Knowledge of communication protocols and control networks.
* Experience of project implementation, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
* Knowledge and experience of safety‑related parts of control systems.
* Health & Safety systems & legislation knowledge (e.g., PUWER, IOSH).
* Experience of improvements resulting in a reduction of breakdowns or increased efficiency.
* Experience of working in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment – preferable.
