Teaching Personnel are seeking dedicated and compassionate SEN Support Assistants to work full-time in SEN and SEMH schools across Wigan. This role involves supporting children and young people with a range of special educational needs and social, emotional and mental health needs, helping them to engage with learning and develop positive behaviours. Key Responsibilities Provide 1:1 or small group support to pupils with SEN and/or SEMH needs Support pupils with emotional regulation, behaviour management, and engagement in learning Assist teachers with delivering tailored learning activities and interventions Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to promote confidence and wellbeing Support pupils with personal care where required Implement behaviour support strategies and follow individual education plans (IEPs) Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals Accurately record observations and progress where required Types of Needs You May Support Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) ADHD SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health) Learning Difficulties Trauma and attachment needs Challenging behaviour Essential Requirements Experience working with children or young people with SEN and/or SEMH (school, care, youth work, or similar settings) Ability to work full-time only (Monday–Friday) A calm, patient, and resilient approach Strong communication and teamwork skills Willingness to support behaviour management and emotional needs Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing Desirable (But Not Essential) Previous experience in SEN or SEMH schools Team Teach or behaviour management training Background in care, psychology, youth work, or mental health support Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification What Teaching Personnel Offer Full-time, consistent work in local Wigan schools Competitive weekly pay, paid via PAYE Ongoing CPD and training opportunities Dedicated consultant support Opportunity to gain valuable experience in specialist education settings All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role.
