Overview
We are seeking an English Teacher to support learners who are repeating their GCSE year after not achieving a pass previously. This role requires patience, creativity, and the ability to motivate and inspire students who often find English challenging. You will also work closely with a significant number of students with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
Key Responsibilities
1. Deliver 7.5 hours of Functional Skills English and 7.5 hours of GCSE Foundation English per week.
2. Provide classroom delivery across three locations: Bottleyard Studios, Portland Square, and Millennium Square.
3. On each teaching day, deliver 5 hours of classroom teaching supported by 2.5 hours of planning, marking, administration, and targeted intervention.
4. Prioritise support for learners with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and those enrolled in ESLprogrammes.
5. Allocate one full day per week to vocational support, assisting learners with written assignments and collaborating closely with vocational lecturers to embed English skills within vocational pathways.
6. Lead 12 Friday ‘Grade Booster’ sessions across the academic year, focusing on exam preparation and skill development.
7. Attend additional Friday sessions as required for whole-staff CPD activities.
Candidate Profile
8. Demonstrated ability to motivate and inspire learners who struggle with English.
9. Experience working with SEN students and adapting teaching methods to meet diverse needs.
10. Strong organisational skills to balance teaching, planning, marking, and intervention.
11. Collaborative approach to working with vocational lecturers and wider staff teams.
Requirements
Essential:
. GCSE Foundation teaching experience
. Functional Skills Level 2 teaching experience
Preferred:
. Experience with City & Guilds Functional Skills qualifications
