Overview Element has a rarely available opportunity for a Technical Manager to join the senior operations team. You will have responsibility for key technical objectives of the Environmental Laboratories in both Deeside and Cape Town. Our laboratory is founded on and robust methods, competent and engaged people and a vibrant management system delivering to client needs. Working closely with the senior team you will ensure that Element maintains technical edge including identifying and developing new methods and improving approaches to existing methods. You will drive training, helping increase competence of our workforce. You will trouble-shoot technical issues, helping find solutions for clients and the operational team and striving for continuous improvement. Element Deeside is the largest analytical chemistry laboratory within the Element Group and the market leading UK laboratory undertaking the testing of soils, waters, wastes, oils, NAPLs, ambient air, soil vapours and gases from all over the world. The laboratory undertakes high volume routine analysis as well as offering bespoke method development, technical support and hydrocarbon forensic interpretations to enhance the support we can deliver. The laboratory has an international reputation for service excellence and supports clients that require a higher level of technical expertise, reliability in data quality and seamless project management from sample collection to timely delivery of data in the format of choice. Responsibilities Lead and drive our method development programme. Progress validation & accreditation of new substances to support this Lead and drive training and competency-building. Re-set out training plans and ensure effective and engaging competency-building is in place Trouble-shoot issues for clients and operations. Review non-conforming work with department heads to ensure effective investigations are undertaken. Monitor effectiveness of investigations, ensure actions are implemented Method review. Assess trends and identify improvements in methods. Oversee changes with a focus on completion of a manageable number of initiatives each year Client support. As needed, actively review and approve client communications regarding technical queries. Attend Industry events to represent, promote, and present on behalf of Element, supplementing the efforts of other client-facing technical and commercial people Skills / Qualifications Environmental laboratory testing experience, preferably a decade or more Relevant Scientific Degree, preferably chemistry or equivalent, preferred but not essential Demonstrable laboratory experience including Supervisory/management Experience In depth knowledge of the operations of a high volume analytical laboratory Company Overview Element is one of the fastest growing testing, inspection and certification businesses in the world.
