Scientific Officer (Clean Water Chemistry) - Belfast - NI Water An excellent opportunity has arisen to join NI Water as a Scientific Officer, supporting the delivery of high-quality laboratory testing and analysis services. Based within an accredited laboratory environment, this role will focus on carrying out chemical analysis across a range of water and environmental samples, helping to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and the continued delivery of safe and reliable water services. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining accurate testing processes, supporting laboratory operations, and contributing to the production of reliable scientific data within a professional and quality-driven setting. About the role: £15.31 per hour Monday to Friday 37 hours per week - Will be required to work flexible hours, work standby/on-call, weekends and bank holidays when required. Westland House, Belfast Parking facilities on site Temporary role until 31st May 2026 Please note closing date for this vacancy is Friday 13th March 2026 - however you can register your interest for other upcoming vacancies by applying today What you'll be doing in this role: Use the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), Power BI and other tools to effectively plan workload and forecast the use of resources. Monitor and maintain stocks of chemicals and consumables. Identify new resource requirements in a timely manner and make recommendations to the Laboratory Manager. Provide internal and external customers with written and verbal updates to address their concerns or enquiries with convincing scientific, evidence-based comments and conclusions. Acquire, maintain and develop technical competency in all analysis methods carried out by the laboratory, including advanced analytical techniques using complex instrumentation, such as GC-MS and ICP-MS. Work under the direction of the Analytical Services Research and Development Manager Laboratory Manager to manage analytical method development and validation 11 activities required to bring into operation new items of analytical instrumentation and ensure that analytical methods for the determination of drinking water are fit for purpose and demonstrate the necessary performance for accreditation when required. Ensure that ISO 17025 and UKAS/DWI Drinking Water Testing Specification (DWTS) requirements are met in all activities relating to laboratory analysis and reporting. What you'll need for this role: A third-level qualification (HNC/HND/Degree) in Science/Chemistry/Environmental Science.
