The EA is looking for an experienced Strategy and Policy Specialist to lead a new team, the Strategic Design and Transition Programme, analysing the Independent Water Commission's report and its implications for the EA. This role involves shaping the future structure and design of the EA, developing a plan to protect and enhance the environment while supporting sustainable growth.
Responsibilities
* Lead work to provide balanced, evidence‑based advice supporting future thinking in light of the IWC report recommendations, particularly the creation of a single water regulator.
* Engage colleagues across Government, within the EA and other regulators to ensure alignment in developing policy.
* Support improvements to water regulation ahead of legislative change.
* Coordinate EA views and advice for Government Departments shaping policy.
* Challenge constructively and embrace diverse thinking in a fast‑moving environment.
* Assist other projects and workstreams within the programme as required.
* Participate actively in the team, fostering a high‑performance, agile culture.
Experience / Skills Required
* Knowledge of environmental management, water sector and EA’s regulatory role.
* Experience developing policy in central government, collaborating with economists and scientists.
* Strategic thinking and acting ability.
* Excellent communication and engagement skills, translating complex issues into concise advice.
* Experience working across boundaries and influencing at all levels.
