Job Title: IT Engineer / IT Support Engineer
Location: Wrexham, North Wales (commutable from Chester, Oswestry, Shrewsbury, Cheshire, Shropshire, and North West England)
Salary: £35,000 per annum, permanent
About the Role Trek Recruitment is recruiting on behalf of our client for an IT Engineer to deliver high-quality IT support, system maintenance, and development of tailored solutions. This hands-on role involves supporting a diverse client base with on-site and remote assistance, ensuring reliable infrastructure and user productivity. This role is working for a manufacturing organisation, experience of working for a similar company is highly desirable.
THE ROLE
Provide first- and second-line IT support for local and remote users, including troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues
Manage and maintain Windows and Ubuntu servers, Active Directory, VMware/vSphere virtual machines, and Veeam backups
Support Microsoft 365, Windows 10/11 operating systems, and general software installations
Handle network device management (switches, firewalls, printers, laptops/desktops) and configurations
Work with SQL Server, MySQL, Synology DSM, Fortinet FortiOS, Certero, and Axonius
Collaborate via Microsoft Teams with head office and branch locations
Document processes in Confluence, generate database queries, and maintain system enquiries
Ensure ongoing hardware/software usability and basic security practices YOU
Strong knowledge of Windows Server environments (including IIS, Print/File Servers, Terminal Services)
Proficiency in Active Directory management, networking basics (firewalls, switches), and IT security principles
Experience supporting users remotely and in-person
Excellent communication skills — able to explain complex technical issues clearly
Minimum HNC/HND or Degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field, plus good amount of experience doing the same/similar job to this one. Desirable Skills
Familiarity with Cisco Meraki, CCNA, network protocols/CLIs, GitHub, VS Code, Azure Data Studio, SharePoint, Jira, Confluence, or Metabase
Knowledge of FIA framework, IT documentation control, virtual desktop infrastructure, ZPL/label printers, SSH/Terminal CLI
