Interim Health & Safety Manager

We're working with a leading education and care charity who are entering an exciting phase of transformation. They are seeking an Interim Health & Safety Manager to strengthen, embed and elevate health and safety across a diverse multi-site environment, ensuring safe, compliant and high-quality operations.
Reporting to the Head of Estates & Facilities, this role operates as both strategic advisor and operational lead - shaping policy, overseeing improvement programmes, and supporting services directly in managing risk, compliance and incident response.
Responsibilities of the Interim Health & Safety Manager will include:
* Acting as the Trust-wide subject matter expert, building strong relationships with Heads of Service and operational leaders
* Leading the Health & Safety function and line managing the Health & Safety Officer
* Developing and implementing the Health & Safety Strategy in alignment with organisational priorities
* Coordinating statutory inspections, audits, drills and compliance checks including fire safety, COSHH, RIDDOR, asbestos and legionella
* Supporting site teams to identify, assess and mitigate risk - advising on control measures and safe systems of work
* Guiding incident management, investigations, root cause analysis and internal learning reviews
* Delivering training, awareness campaigns and coaching to improve safety ownership and capability across the workforce
* Maintaining oversight of policies, registers, incident reporting systems and data accuracy
The successful Interim Health & Safety Manager will have:
* Experience managing health and safety across multi-site operations Strong working knowledge of UK health and safety law and statutory obligations including RIDDOR, COSHH and fire safety frameworks
* Experience conducting audits, inspections, incident investigations and improvement planning
* Experience line managing or supervising health and safety professionals Ability to engage senior leaders, influence decision-making and support transformation
* Experience delivering training, documentation, communications or internal campaigns related to health and safety
