Mechanical Maintenance Operative
Salary: £38,000
Mitie Care & Custody (C&C) seeks to establish HMP Millsike as a place of restoration and rehabilitation, empowering prisoners to unlock their potential and make meaningful changes. Job objectives and responsibilities
* Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance.
* Ensure SHE standards are maintained and liaise with engineers and subcontractors.
* Proactively liaise with clients and relay concerns to management as necessary.
* Comply with and enforce existing business risk management procedures for maintenance and project works.
* Understand and complete all work-related documentation accurately and on time.
* Investigate and report infrastructure shortfalls, problems and incidents; recommend remedial actions.
* Coordinate connections to existing plant/systems and effectively use and maintain O&M manuals and quality procedures.
* Be available for scheduled and unplanned weekend working.
* Comply with safe systems of work, health and safety, hygiene, cleanliness and local fire regulation procedures.
* Support a 24-hour 365-day operation with the engineering team on a shift rota and offer out-of-hours call out functions.
Person Specification / Qualifications
* Possess one of the following certificates: Apprenticeship or equivalent; IOSH or equivalent; C&G/BTEC Mechanical and Electrical Building Services Engineering Parts 1, 2, and 3; NVQ with multi-skilled engineering Level 3; C&G 2079 F Gas or equivalent; HVAC or gas equivalent; or C&G 2391/2 18th edition IEE regulations.
* Experience providing electrical maintenance services in a large, complex environment.
* Basic to intermediate IT skills (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook) and experience updating records.
* Effective communication at all levels, both verbally and in writing; excellent interpersonal skills and self-motivation.
* Substantial practical experience with building services disciplines including heating, hot water, ventilation, refrigeration, environmental, electrical power and distribution, and public health.
* Team player with flexibility within contracted hours and a proactive, can-do attitude.
* Detail-oriented with a commitment to maintaining high standards.

What we are looking for
* Be a UK citizen, a Commonwealth citizen with indefinite leave to remain (not through marriage), or an EEA citizen.
* Have a valid in-date passport with no restrictions on stay in the UK. Visa from out-of-date passports cannot be used as proof of Right to Work.
* Have continuously resided in the UK for the past 3 years (no overseas trips longer than 3 months).
* Applicants must not have spent more than 3 months overseas at any one time in the previous 5 years.
* This position is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act; applicants must be prepared to undergo an Enhanced DBS check, employer references for the previous 5 years, and vetting to Counter Terrorist Check (CTC) level if offered role.
