Offer description

The Opportunity Northampton is a cornerstone of the UK's "High Performance Technology" cluster, situated within the South Midlands' golden research triangle. We are seeking a versatile and passionate Science Teacher to join a forward-thinking faculty. In this role, you will inspire the next generation of engineers, medics, and researchers, helping them navigate the complexities of the physical and biological world in a town with deep roots in shoe manufacturing and modern motor-sport engineering. The Department You will join a collaborative Science team that treats the laboratory as a hub of inquiry, focusing on the "Big Ideas" that connect Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. The department features university-standard laboratories, advanced data-logging interfaces, and a dedicated team of technicians who support a high-volume practical curriculum. We follow a "Spaced Practice" curriculum model, ensuring that fundamental concepts like energy transfer, atomic structure, and cellular organization are revisited and mastered. We leverage our location by collaborating with local STEM industries, providing students with insight into the applied sciences used in Northamptonshire’s high-tech automotive and logistics sectors. Core Responsibilities Curriculum Delivery: Teaching General Science across Key Stage 3 and specializing in Biology, Chemistry, or Physics at GCSE (AQA/Edexcel), with opportunities to lead A-Level modules. Scientific Inquiry: Training students in the rigorous application of the scientific method—from initial hypothesis to the statistical analysis of experimental data. Conceptual Modeling: Using dual-coding and physical modeling to explain abstract concepts, such as the flow of electricity in a circuit or the mechanism of DNA replication. Practical Assessment: Managing the delivery of "Required Practicals," ensuring students develop the technical precision and safety-consciousness required for academic success. STEM Advocacy: Coordinating extracurricular clubs, such as "Lego Robotics" or "Eco-Warriors," to foster a school-wide culture of scientific curiosity. The Successful Candidate We are looking for a specialist who can bridge the gap between textbook theory and real-world application. Requirements include: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in a core Science discipline (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics). Subject Versatility: The ability to teach all three sciences confidently at Key Stage 3, while maintaining high-level expertise in your chosen specialism at KS4/5. Safety Mastery: A thorough understanding of COSHH and CLEAPSS guidelines to ensure a safe and productive laboratory environment. Effective Communication: The ability to simplify complex phenomena—like electromagnetism or metabolic pathways—without losing the necessary academic rigor. Why Join Us? A school that treats Science as a core pillar of student success, with high investment in lab equipment and digital resources. Access to a structured CPD program focused on the latest research in cognitive science and practical pedagogy. The opportunity to work in Northampton, a town offering a blend of historic market charm and modern commercial energy, with excellent transport links via the M1 and West Coast Main Line. A supportive and professional environment that values collaborative planning and the sharing of innovative teaching resources.
