What We Are Looking For
Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land (RBSL) is a defence engineering company based in the UK. We design, manufacture and support military vehicles used by the British Army and international customers.
The role will report directly to the Manufacturing Director, supporting multi-disciplinary teams with knowledge and competencies across advanced assembly, integration and diagnostic activities on Boxer, Warrior & Challenger vehicle platforms, with initial focus supporting Drive Module and Mission Module systems. The role will also include leading small teams, supporting technical training, and ensuring all work meets defence quality and safety standards.
Position Duties and Responsibilities
* The role’s key responsibility will be to develop all key competencies and skills across all the Programmes.
* Carry out installation, fault finding and diagnostic activities on vehicle electrical systems and their installed components.
* Have advanced practical knowledge and experience of vehicle electrical theory, systems operation & principles and electrical/mechanical/structural installations.
* Able to read/interpret technical drawings & specifications at component and assembly level, understand the application of tolerances and implication of tolerance build up.
* Be competent in using a wide range of hand tools and equipment both for installation and the testing of electrical components and systems.
* Have a clear understanding of project milestones and be able to work to planned targets.
* Demonstrate the importance of meeting time, cost and quality requirements by always striving to achieve and exceed them.
* Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and implement permanent corrective actions.
* Perform functional testing and validation following repair or build.
* Complete technical reports and assist the Quality department as required.
* The primary technical escalation point for complex issues, identification and reporting of defects/non-conformances/improvement opportunities.
* Provide on-the-job training and mentoring to technicians and apprentices.
* Develop the teams to enhance skillset and teams ability to deliver efficiently, effectively and safely across all Programmes.
* Provide and develop instructions on vehicle system architecture, diagnostic techniques, correct assembly and torque procedures, assess and support competency development against platform standards and share lessons learned/best practices to improve team capability.
* Ensure compliance with company Health, Safety & Environmental Policy requirements, and take any reasonable steps and precautions to protect or minimise harm to the workplace, its employees and the environment.
* Maintain a safe and efficient working area in accordance with 5S requirements.
* Ensure the quality of own work, ensuring traceability through self-certification of production documentation records (e.g. test instructions, test reports).
Essential Qualifications
WHAT QUALIFICATIONS YOU SHOULD HAVE
* Minimum of Level 4 qualification in Electrical Automotive or apprentice trained electrician & mechanical who is adaptable and reliable with the ability to prioritise and work effectively to deadlines or equivalent
* Significant experience in Engineering/Manufacturing bias and the Defence Industry.
* Ability to read and understand specifications, technical drawings, work instructions and test procedures of complex structural components.
* Able to install systems and carry out failure diagnosis and route cause analysis using electrical Block Wiring Diagrams and Schematics.
* Assembly experience working within an electrical, mechanical engineering or production environment in a similar industry.
* Understanding and application of electrical and mechanical engineering disciplines and principles.
* Knowledge of vehicle automotive systems (including DC electrical systems).
* Experience of installing vehicle electrical harness systems.
* Experience of working with and installation of Data bus and Fibre optics systems an advantage.
* Continuous improvement mind-set and can demonstrate attention to detail.
Desirable
* Experienced in the use of Boxer computer diagnostic equipment and software an advantage.
* Advanced diagnostic abilities across all Boxer mechanical, electrical and software systems an advantage.
