About East Kootenay Regional Hospital
EKRH is an 80-bed regional referral centre serving approximately 82,000 people in the East Kootenay region. Services include 24/7 emergency and trauma with a 16-bed unit and a 6-bed ICU. The hospital features a level 3 lab with PCR and MALDI/TOF, plus MRI, SPECT CT, and upcoming CT scanners. Facilities are expanding with a new NICU, renovated ER triage, and oncology and renal departments. Our team provides internal medicine, OB/GYN, general surgery, orthopedics, ophthalmology, ENT, pathology, psychiatry, pediatrics, anesthesia, radiology, urology, and inpatient family practice care.
Role and Responsibilities
Shape the future of adult mental healthcare by delivering comprehensive psychiatric care for adults in the inpatient unit, outpatient clinic, and consultations across medical, surgical units, and the ER. Collaborate with clinical teams and Indigenous partners to expand access to mental health services in rural East Kootenays and implement adult-specific treatment strategies. Responsibilities include managing chronic mental health issues and substance use disorders, as well as developing and applying wellness plans tailored to an adult population. You will also contribute to ongoing professional development and participate in initiatives to improve care across the region.
Qualifications and Experience
Eligible for medical licensure as a psychiatrist in British Columbia. Demonstrated ability to work in inpatient and outpatient settings, with a commitment to adult psychiatry, and experience or interest in Indigenous health partnerships is valued. Strong collaboration, communication, and leadership skills are essential. A track record of clinical excellence and a passion for improving mental health outcomes in a rural context is preferred.
Compensation and Benefits
Compensation Type: Combination. Estimated remuneration between $400,000–$600,000 through fee-for-service billings, sessional contracts, and MOCAP Level 2. Benefits and incentives include: vacation leave, flexibility in scheduling, relocation funding, recruitment incentive, and rural incentive programs. Specific rates and eligibility are confirmed at the time of offer and may be subject to change.
