Burwell Surgery is a well-regarded dispensing and training village practice. Situated within easy reach of Cambridge and the A14. Burwell has plenty of facilities to serve the local residents and has a real sense of community. The premises offer plenty of on-site parking for staff.
We are looking to recruit a Pharmacy Technician to work 22.5 to 30 hours per week.
About the role
To provide medicine management support to the GPs of Burwell Surgery, working alongside and reporting to the Clinical Pharmacist. Must be an excellent communicator and able to maintain good relationships with all practice and PCN staff.
We are a SystmOne practice and we use AskmyGP as our online access system.

We have an excellent Admin and Nursing Team and other team members include Advanced Paramedic Practitioner, First Contact Physiotherapist, Social prescriber and Health Coaches. We are a Research active practice and as a Training practice we offer a range of training for both Medical Students and GP Registrars.

Job Description
Job responsibilities
* Directly work with patients to ensure effective medicines use
* Discuss and agree plans with patients through shared decision-making conversations
* Provide lifestyle advice and onward referral
* Ensure necessary blood tests and monitoring are carried out
* Action discharge summaries and communicate with patients when needed to support medication changes requested by secondary care
* Assist with medication reviews
* Identify and recommend patients for Support Structured Medication Reviews (SMRs)
* Medicine administration. Eg. check patient inhaler technique, or need for dosette box / assistive medication devices.
* Medicine management of care home residents provide contact for care home residents medicine queries and link with our GPs, care home staff and pharmacies as needed.
* Support clinical aspects of Shared Care Protocols, liaise with specialist pharmacists for more complex patients
* Support initiatives to reduce inappropriate antibiotic prescribing
* Support changes and best practice guidance
* Support patient safety through audits, reviews of significant events and complaints
* Support prescribing efficiencies. Work with the GP team to ensure efficient medicines optimisation
* Support successful delivery of performance targets and contract requirements by ensuring patient follow up work is done, accurate coding in the patient record
* Support Quality and Outcome Frameworks and other DES/ LES specifications, providing reports where required
* Alert other team members to concerns about risk, quality, and safety.
* Participate in meetings and educational sessions related to prescribing topics.
* Demonstrate an awareness of own limitations and experience, and proactively seek support accordingly. Work under appropriate clinical supervision to ensure safe, effective and efficient use of medicines.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
* GCSE or equivalent in both Maths and English at Grade 4/C or above.
* Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
* Need to be responsible for own personal development, to ensure that continued registration requirements are met.
Experience
* Managing patient medication.
* Using IT systems to record, analyse and communicate information accurately.
Desirable
* More than three years experience working within Primary Care.
* Use of electronic communication platforms (email, SystmOne, Microsoft Teams)
Knowledge and Skills
* Good communicator.
* Well-organised, diligent, and attentive to detail.
* Ability to build strong working relationships.
* Self-motivated and able to prioritise.
* Works well as part of a team.
