Job Description Summary
The main responsibility of the power system support engineer is to work with Electric Utilities System Operators and Transmission System Operators.
The candidate will be part of an existing maintenance and support team and will provide technical expertise and guidance to customers on GE Vernova Software solutions such as AEMS Reliance. The successful candidate must demonstrate experience and skills in electricity power systems and software programming.
This role is located onsite with our customer in Wokingham. Hybrid working arrangements can be considered; however, onsite presence is preferred.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
* Work with customers to gather information, investigate, diagnose, and resolve complex issues.
* Provide support for incoming tickets across various power system modules of the AEMS product.
* Develop fixes and product enhancements in collaboration with other GE Vernova Electrification Software experts.
* Maintain power systems application functionality, including code fixes, documentation, and user interfaces.
* Perform regular build deployment activities and guide the deployment process through different environments until production.
* Handle out-of-hours 24/7 emergency support.
* Facilitate the relationship between the customer and third-party vendors.
* Travel to customer sites in the region as required.
* Understand key business drivers and how the work of your team integrates with others.
* Use judgment and propose solutions outside set parameters with guidance.
Required Qualifications
* Knowledge comparable to a bachelor’s degree in an accredited university or college, or a high school diploma with relevant experience.
* Degree in electrical Power Systems with a track record in software development or project delivery in a related field.
Essential Criteria
* Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of presenting to technical and non-technical audiences.
* Excellent programming skills in C, C++, C#, Python, or related languages.
* Knowledge or experience with RDBMS and Linux.
* Good understanding of power systems and energy management systems, especially transmission network applications like State Estimation, Contingency Analysis, and others.
Desirable Criteria
* Experience in power systems or academic background in the field.
* Knowledge of electric utility industry practices.
* Customer-focused mindset and ability to work independently.
* High personal and professional integrity.
* Effective teamwork skills.
This role involves working with customers managing critical infrastructure; background checks and UK Security Clearance (SC) may be required based on customer requirements.
