The successful candidate will be proficient in general surgery scrub and/or anaesthetics, demonstrating advanced clinical skills and the ability to perform confidently in high ‑ acuity, time ‑ critical situations. Strong leadership experience is essential, as you will play a key role in supporting team coordination, guiding junior staff, and promoting excellence in General surgery delivery. Advert Main Duties and Responsibilities • Possesses and demonstrates appropriate and necessary managerial skills and knowledge. Demonstrates management and leadership skills of the level, which help facilitate the smooth running of the department. • Recognises need for own development to be relevant to expectations of role and on-going development of service • Able to manage material resources effectively, makes sure adequate stock levels are always maintained by ensuring stock, non-stock and pharmacy resources are fully stocked. • Able to plan duty rosters if required which reflect the needs of the Theatre and which consider working lives. • Guide staff towards an efficient and cost-effective use of resources. • Brings about changes in practice which is evidence based. Produces a minimum of two examples of changes in practice which benefit patient care to go through second gateway when that incremental stage is reached. • Actively promote sharing of good practice and dissemination of information following attendance on courses or study days. • Following completion of appropriate training performs expanded roles within the clinical area such as: Surgical First Assistant (SFA) role and carrying out venepuncture and cannulation, ECG training. • Demonstrates confidence and competence in the role and an appropriate degree of authority when making decisions and able to manage conflict. Detailed job description and main responsibilities • Demonstrates understanding of own accountability being able to delegate work and refer to other professionals • Demonstrates ability to take on the role of patient advocate. • When required, acts as effective link practitioner to appropriate groups. • Communicates effectively with multidisciplinary teams and external agencies as appropriate. • Demonstrates actions which maintain patient respect and dignity • Adheres in practice with all Trust and departmental policies, procedures and SOP' including manual handling, fire and basic life support. Be Able to confidently challenge and address poor standards of care at the time of occurrence; communicating effectively with all relevant staff. • Able to manage a team whilst caring for patients and prioritise workload for shift. • Reports failures in system and breakdowns through appropriate channels. Professional Issues · Maintain standards of conduct to sustain public confidence in accordance with NMC/HCPC directives. · Act in a professional manner towards patients, relatives, visitors and all members of the multi-disciplinary team. · To participate in Personal Development Planning. Health and Safety Responsibilities · To ensure that the Trust’s Health and Safety Policies are understood and observed and that procedures are followed. · To ensure the appropriate use of equipment and facilities and that the working environment is maintained in good order. · To take the necessary precautions to safeguard the welfare and safety of yourself, patients, visitors, and staff, in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act. · To undertake appropriate health and safety training to support safe working practice, including where appropriate, its management. · To demonstrate a practical understanding of risk assessment in relation to their areas of responsibility and to ensure safe systems of work are in place. · To ensure that all incidents occurring within the department are reported in accordance with Trust procedures, investigated and corrective action taken as necessary and/or reported to senior management and specialist advisers.
