Witherby Publishing Group is the leading publisher of operational guidance and technical standards for the international shipping industry. Witherbys works with leading industry bodies to provide guidance to ships transiting the most challenging navigational areas worldwide.
The role of Navigation Advisor will sit within Witherbys technical team under the Head of Navigation. The technical team is composed of other technical advisors, as well as a GIS team, technical editors and editorial coordinators. The successful candidate will be responsible for researching, writing and updating the portfolio of our technical products, including the Witherbys Passage Planning Guides and titles across a wide range of subject areas.
At all times, the Navigation Advisor will be working to maintain and advance Witherbys reputation within the maritime industry. While the position is primarily office-based, the role will require travel internationally for up to circa 2 to 3 months per year. The role involves meeting with industry bodies as well as visiting ships in transit as an observer working with Marine Pilots to update and create navigational products for Witherbys.
Prospective candidates should possess the following key attributes:
* Current or recent experience as an OOW and hold a valid ENG1 certificate
* strong understanding and recent experience in passage planning, navigation and ECDIS
* be motivated to research and prepare key written guidance
* demonstrate an enthusiasm for marine operations
* experience in the use of the wide range of information sources required in the planning of a voyage
* possess a strong knowledge of marine technical subjects
* team-oriented, detail-focused, and proactive
* knowledge and experience of the major sea routes of the world is advantageous
* willingness to undertake circa 2 to 3 months travel internationally and around the UK each year
* excellent written and verbal communication skills
Salary and Conditions:
* Salary is £45,000 per annum
