Administration Officer
Location: HMP Norwich - Young Offender Institution (YOI) Unit
Rate: £12.21 per hour + holiday pay
Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week (flexible hours between 7:30am and 7:00pm)
Contract: Temporary, office-based
Pay Frequency: Weekly
Are you an organised and proactive administrator looking to contribute to meaningful work in the public sector? This is your opportunity to support the important rehabilitative efforts within the Young Offender Institution (YOI) at HMP Norwich. We're seeking a dependable and confident Administration Officer to play a key part in the day-to-day running of the unit. You'll be at the heart of a busy, people-focused team, supporting both staff and visitors, including People on Probation. This role offers a chance to make a real difference‑providing structure, stability, and support in an environment where it truly matters.
What You'll Be Doing
* Providing a wide range of administrative support across the YOI unit
* Maintaining accurate records, data entry, and correspondence management
* Welcoming and assisting visitors and People on Probation, both face-to-face and by phone
* Preparing reports and documentation using Microsoft Office
* Handling general office tasks including post, photocopying, and filing
* Supporting the wider team with operational admin functions as needed
What We're Looking For
* Solid admin experience or strong transferable skills
* Confident communication skills and a calm, approachable manner
* High attention to detail and good organisation
* Comfortable using Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, and databases
* A flexible, reliable attitude and willingness to support others in a team setting
* Someone who thrives in a structured environment and understands the importance of confidentiality
