Luton Council is seeking a skilled and motivated Assistant Mechanical Engineer to join our friendly and forward-thinking Design & Maintenance Team.

Working under the guidance of the Principal Services Engineer and Project Design Manager, you'll play a vital role in delivering high-quality mechanical design services for a diverse range of projects, from modernising schools to upgrading public buildings. This is an exciting opportunity to make a tangible impact on the community while developing your expertise in a collaborative and supportive environment.

What you'll be doing:

Providing professional advice and delivering a wide range of mechanical services design for new developments and refurbishments.
Producing technical drawings using AutoCAD and/or Revit-based software.
Carrying out mechanical design calculations, including using software such as Stabicad, IES, or Hevacomp.
Writing clear, concise technical reports to inform project decisions.
Planning, prioritising, and managing your workload to meet deadlines and fee targets.
Collaborating with internal colleagues and external consultants to meet technical, financial, and legislative requirements.
Conducting site visits, including accessing all areas of building sites using ladders or scaffolding when required.

A relevant professional qualification (HNC or equivalent) or demonstrable equivalent work-based experience and training.
Strong working knowledge of relevant legislation and statutory requirements, including CDM regulations, building regulations, asbestos regulations, and IEE regulations.
The ability to create and maintain strong working relationships, consult effectively, and influence outcomes.
Understanding and commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace.
Confident use of mechanical design software and CAD/Revit tools.
Excellent organisational skills to balance conflicting priorities.

Salary: £33,143 - £46,142 a year plus £963 essential car user allowance
