The Head of HSE role will be responsible for leading effective Health, Safety and Environmental initiatives, ensuring CDE’s ethos Home Safe Every Day is at the forefront of our business operations whilst successfully delivering to the Customer requirements.

The successful candidate will liaise closely with the senior leadership and management teams, being a champion for all aspects of HSE performance. They will ensure legislative compliance, continuous improvement to our in‑house standards, systems and procedures and best practices across our multidisciplinary and global teams.
The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping and ensuring that CDE is an exemplar of HSE in our industry, strengthening our current HSE legacy with their wide‑ranging knowledge and experience relating to delivering the design, manufacture, and global installation on‑site of our equipment, in compliance with all relevant legislative requirements.
About The Role
* Define and deliver the Group Health & Safety strategy across all business units.
* Provide strategic direction and expert advice across the organisation, helping instil a strong health and safety culture across all our facilities and regions.
* Act as the primary advisor to the board and senior leadership on all matters related to Health and Safety.
* Continuously monitor the health of the health and safety department and the level of expertise that exists within the current structure to identify the gaps between current practice and best practice. Implement changes to current practice to close gaps towards best practice.
* Continuously review the success of and identify any gaps in the HSE governance framework with the support of organisational sponsors. Ensure engagement and adherence to the implemented governance framework. The Governance Framework should have clear organisational structure and definition of roles and responsibilities as well as clear methods for measuring accountability and performance, and defined communication/escalation channels to ensure that senior leaders are aware of performance and any issues at all times.
* Work with all areas of the business to develop, review, and implement robust Health, Safety, and Environmental strategies, policies, and systems in line with evolving UK legislation and best practice, to identify risks and develop risk management strategies to provide a safe working environment for all.
* Own the Health and Safety budget to ensure that budgets are created in line with needs and actuals are delivered within budgets, including resource requirements and other direct departmental costs.
* Ensure the HSE team has a visible presence across each of our facilities, and there is a high level of interaction with and support for the operational teams.
* Ensure that the HSE team conduct regular site visits across our field operations, including installation and commissioning phases of Customer projects and after‑sales activities to provide leadership, coaching, and visible support to operational teams and subcontractor partners.
* Ensure a robust internal audit process, which includes a schedule for all areas of the business and supports the HSE management systems.
* Ensure business readiness for external audits, leading the audit process to maintain compliance to ISO, Achilles and any other relevant accreditations.
* Professionally represent CDE in any interactions with statutory bodies such as the Health and Safety Executive or Environmental Health.
* Manage accident/incident reporting and analyse trends to drive continuous improvement, leading investigations into serious incidents, ensuring thorough root cause analysis and implementation of preventative actions. Ensure that all incidents are appropriately reported to governing bodies and to CDE’s insurance company.
Required Criteria
* NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) Level 6 in Occupational Safety and Health.
* Chartered Membership of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH).
* Minimum of five years’ experience leading a health and safety department.
Desired Criteria
* Minimum 10 years’ manufacturing and/or construction experience.
